The magazine Box is definitely plenty long for the 458 win mag. I have one that was rechambered to 458 a lot. The lot throat is short, and the win mag throat is long. You can load the 458 win mag long and create the same powder capacity as the 458 lot. There is plenty of room in the magazine for this. I don't think you can go wrong with either.. If you're 9.3 x 62 is a brno ZKK I might be interested in trying to talk you into selling that to me, instead of your 375. Please pm me if that is the case.

How do you crimp the bullets when you load them long?

Another option is to convert the the Win mag to a Lott. Then IMO your battery of 9,3 , 375 and 459Lott will be all you will ever need.

Absolutely. Much of the factory ammo that is produced with a bullet that does not have a cannelur is crimmed.

@DmacD One question in regard to the Brno 602 in 416 Rigby. Is the barrel original or has it been re-barreled? Asking out of collector curiosity. Although 416 Rigby was a CZ standard factory offering, I haven't heard of a factory original Brno in that calibre. The Brno 602 standard calibres were 300 Win Mag, 358 Norma Mag, 375 H&H Mag and 458 Win Mag. That being said I have seen original 602s in other calibres and suspect they were quite flexible in what they built.

If you have the money buy both.

A new old stock Brno 602 .458wm will never come up again.

Use the .416 but if you find it's not big enough you have the .458 as a fall back otherwise it's an investment.

I looked at an on-line ad for a Brno 602 416 Rigby located in Severn ON. Is that the one your referring to? It doesn't look quite right for an original. The barrel band sling swivel is not the Brno type. the stock cross bolts don't seem quite right. Its hard to tell from the photo but the rear sight mount may be a sleeved arrangement.
At the end of the day, originality is only important to the collector. If your desire is for a hunting rifle then performance and execution will be the key deciders. Nothing wrong with custom.

I bought my first 602 from Bauska in the mid 80s, paid a little over $300 for it. At the time, the only other magnum length actions were original Oberndorf #20s, Brevexes or Enfields. I could not afford any of the others, except maybe an Enfield, and was very happy to get it, despite its roughness. It had most of the desirable Mauser features and that was more important to me.

And yes, I had the same thoughts as you did regarding the peculiarities of this BRNO. The cross-bolts looked out of place to me as well. I spoke with the seller, he has owned the rifle for two years, and shot it very little. He did not know what was original, and what may have been added by a previous owner. He stated the date of manufacture was 1998, which also did not jive with me.
Yes, I am looking for a hunting rifle primarily, but I do value original equipment and features. The more I ponder this rifle, the more I seem to be veering away from it....

I'm not sure when ZKK production stopped and 550 production started. I have read somewhere around late 1990s to 2000. As such a date of 1998 may not be out of the question. One of my Brno 602s is a 458 WM dated 95. Mechanically it is in all respects a Brno ZKK 602. However it shows some signs of transition in branding:

• The year stamp and proof stamp are on the right hand side of the receiver and barrel not the left as in my other Brnos.
• The top of the scope base has the standard Brno logo etc, however the left hand side of the receiver wall has the CZ logo and the label "CZ 602 ZKK".
• The recoil pad has the CZ logo.

It should be remembered that although called a Brno, all the ZKK series of rifles were produced at the Uherski Brod factory now known as CZ UB.

Hello all,
A question for those in the know. I have the opportunity to purchase a New Old Stock BRNO ZKK-602 in .458 Win Mag. I also have the option of buying an excellent condition ZKK-602 in .416 Rigby. The Rigby has a barrel band sling swivel, but other than that, both rifles are essentially the same.
I currently own a ZKK-602 in .375 H&H. but will be selling it off to acquire one of the above rifles. I have a 9.3x62, so the .375 is almost a redundancy in my current battery. Looking to fulfill the Buffalo hunt dream in the distant future, and also, have always wanted a rifle in a calibre that started in a "four".
What do the learned gentlemen (and ladies!) of the forum have to say on this?
