What is the least used and least liked rifle in your safe? Why?

Ruger M77 Mark II in .338 Win Mag. With a hollow composite stock. It is just painful to shoot. Too light weight and it is a fast jab rather than a big push like the bigger calibers. Shoot it on one elk hunt and it has been in the safe for the past 10+ years. When I find someone I really do not like, i will give them this gun as a present.

I have a love/hate relationship with a Remington 721 in 300h&h I bought about 8 years ago.

I’ve never shot it and I realized the extractor is shot and replacements are virtually unobtainable. I’ve thought of having an m16 extractor installed or selling it but I just can’t bring myself to do it.

So it sits in the safe languishing.

My least favorite firearm in my safe is definitely my beretta a400 12 gauge. I’ve sold rifles I don’t want in there. It looks nice but just not a hunting shotgun. It begins to jam after 2 boxes of shells and any mud is a problem. Beretta didn’t design it as a hunting shotgun. I need to sell it and upgrade to a benelli super black eagle.

Remington 600 Mohawk 308 with a 20 "bbl. and a composite stock. Kicks like a Missouri mule and is loud. I put a Timney trigger in it so it shoots good. The gun just doesn't feel right.

I’ve got Remington 600 (not a Mohawk) in 6mm Remington with a Weaver 3-9x scope and Monte Carlo stock. Love it. Bought it from a friend who hunted with for years in Arizona. Probably the best fitting gun I own.

I bought Dakota arms in 416 Rigby with high end wood and a recoil reducer in the stock. Fired a box through it and placed in the safe. I don’t hate it but have never brought it out again.

Sounds like you should sell it to someone who would take it to Africa next year.....

Your an A-hole and a Jerk,, now that you don.t like me send me the Rifle

I like then all but my least used is a Ruger M77 458wm RSC. Its a beautiful rifle but nothing that I hunt calls for it. On the other hand it has kept the elephants out of the garden.
Yep, you can never find an Elephant when you need one.
Keeping an Elephant rifle on hand ensures that.

There is a strange level of nostalgia with firearms that is easily understood amongst hunters. Reading this reminds me that a rifle in the back of the safe isn’t a simple fungible asset, there is something to them because of the experiences tied to ownership and the possibility of adventure or misadventure.

Some of the comments remind me of when I’ve tried a new food or drink touted to be superb, that is particularly bad, bad enough to make sure your close friend tries it too to share the misery.

I have a custom pre-64 winchester that is beautiful and has nice optics. It’s in 270 winchester and I didn’t appreciate at the time that I am not a 270 kinda guy. Nothing wrong with them, but I have 243s and 7x57s and 7x64s. I’m either hunting something that a smaller gun does better or a bigger gun does better. My plan is to rebore it to 35 whelen so I can admire it in the display cabinet in a better caliber…that I probably won’t use either.

I saw it mentioned the Ruger 10-22 and their inability to feed properly from a large banana magazine.

It has been known for over 30 years that there are problems with them feeding from non Ruger magazines and the banana type. I wouldn't discount them for not being able to feed from them. Also the cost of a 10-22 keeps them available to most of the public. If you want to jazz it up a little with a new trigger, barrel, and stock then you will have a very nice top of the line target 22. And still be in it for less than some of the higher end 22's.

Yes, but have you ever seen a charging pack of Texas red squirrels or attacking mob of Norwegian wharf rats?!? That banana clip can be as critical as CRF on a .416!

This is my 1916 Newton in caliber .35 Newton. I hardly ever fire it and its sister caliber .30 Newton, because 1916 Newtons have a bad habit of splitting their stocks when fired with a cartridge which generates substantial recoil. I realise I could have both glass bedded, but I prefer to keep them in their original condition. I intend to hunt with them this fall, if the opportunity presents itself.

But that is when after you have shot your 10 rounds you change the ends of the rifle in your hands and use it like a golf club. :A Big Hello:

"If it’s in my safe I like it!"

Least used are a couple of old Winchester .22 rifles, but they are well liked and will be kept.

Some years ago when my older brother passed away, he left me a few rifles and I had told him that I would hunt with each.. I did that and then sold all of them but the Ruger 77 .338 which not only filled a gap in my armory, but has turned out to be a vey good hunting rifle in Africa and the USA.

My least used is a Remington M700 in 300WM. I've had that rifle for probably 40+ years. It was used when I purchased it. For a number of years it was my go to rifle. It did belt you pretty good with 180gr and up bullets but back then that didn't bother me, anymore it does. Probably should get rid of it but it hangs out at the back of safe.

I don't really have any guns in the safe that I dislike.
