Namibia - a new leopard record?

the farmer's scale showed 100kg in a flash and did not go any further ,the additional 20kg were estimated by the farmer. The other shows the scale.
More than 100kg its defenetly no hunting-latin.

Farmers and their weight scales then add some for extras .

Hi folks,
got these pics from a friend. This Tom was shot last Monday.
A lucky snapshot on the way to the bait.
The scale showed only maximum 100 kg.
Big like a lioness.
They guessed him at 120 kg and minimum 15 years.
What a monster from the Komas Highlands.
Waidmannsheil to this outstanding cat.
Foxi

And Namibia got back to step 3 this week.
The borders are closed again.
A disaster, the world needs a vaccine against the shitty Corona virus.

Congrats. Beautiful trophy.

Great leopard and a old specimen no doubt.....120-130KG not a chance....

My observations just from the pictures....I was not there but I have hunted more than my fair share of leopards....two of which went over 200 lbs, one of 220 lbs(100 kg) and another 216 lbs(97 kg), both super cats....

The shot placement is very high on the shoulder.....so the cat was wounded.....follow up took a long time....cat was eventually found....dead, but the result is the bloated appearance of the leopard(making it look bigger than what it is/was), the sunken eyes and dull color is a dead giveaway for that.....no shot and recovered cat has dull sunken eyes......may well have been chased for a long time by hounds but that is not my first assessment....

Great leopard and yes very old and a once in a lifetime cat, but this is not a 200 lb plus leopard by a long margin.....

Very good cat no matter the details!

Yep, sunken eyes indicate quite a bit of time between death and photo- hard to say why the delay- maybe overnight? Weight is hard to pin down or estimate from pic. But it still looks plenty healthy and "beefy". Obviously an old mature cat. The head/face indicate that. While the visible canines are not stubby, nor heavily worn, they are don't have the appearance of being really sharp either as those of a younger cat. Plus official "records" are by skull measurement.

Waidmannsheil (y):D Beers:

I’d take it in a heart beat! Envy! A fine handsome old devil!

The (too) high spinal shot can also have shattered a vertebra.
A splinter of the bullet is sufficient for this.
My old dog also had sunken eyes (during his last years)
And what do the experts say about the scale?
Broken of course, what else.
Or the PH has still hung.
Next week I will know more about it .

No doubt a once in a lifetime trophy.

I just comment on what I see in the pictures, this would never be a killing shot on such a large and old leopard....

There is no way this leopard weights 264 lbs....

My opinion, having shot 7 leopards in my first 2 years as an apprentice and many more since....

Good looking cat. I’d be proud to take that cat!

I don't mean to presume anything, nor do i have the expertise on leopards as some who have commented here, but going off the picture of the scale i would say its hardly conclusive. You just see a portion of one of the leopard's paws and then the meter of the scale. If the picture at least included a full shot of the leopard's entire body on the scale, so that it is clear there is nothing else, and a picture of the meter as well i would say that would be much stronger evidence or proof.

He is a big cat. And that's another beautiful area of Namibia. I was blessed on my last trip over to spend a couple of days there hunting Mt Zebra. Love Namibia and it's people.
@Dee S
Couldn't agree more only been to Namibia but beautiful people beautiful country and great hunting.

Some news :
official weight 108 KG (the information will be made public there)
During farm control at 150 m a lucky shot with the .300 Win Mag and a bullet splinter in the spine, one roar and than immediately dead.
Now they wait until the Trophy Permit is approved, then he comes out of the freezer and the plan is full mount for this extraordinary animal (if someone wants to weigh him, I can certainly do something about it ;)

This I heared today from the owner of the ranch.

That is an old leopard with a very heavy body and very large paws. He was obviously posed for the pictures while still limber, so I think it highly unlikely he lay around the bush all night with sinking eyes and bloating body. Photos are extremely difficult to use in judging animal weight. The one with the hunter is typically misleading because he is back from the cat a bit (lots of us can be found to be guilty of that technique from time to time). But, I have no problem believing this is a 200 + lb cat. One hell of a leopard.

Wonderful post @Foxi. BTW, took 3 years of Latin back in the old High School days but still had to look up.

I would be very happy with this kitty even if he’s not a world record!

Do you have any other pics of him?

I would love to see more of him
