Jihadists seize Moz port

This idea of staying out of it smacks of appeasement! Hoping you'll (any country) will be left until last. And believe me it is coming to EVERY country on the planet. We here in southern Africa thought it was a middle east issue, we were 6000 miles away. Well guess what, it's on our doorstep and it will be all of yours soon.

South Africa was warned to not intervene or they would move the war here too. So the cowards in power allowed the vastly inferior Moz government / military to deal with this alone. Once they are finished with Moz they will come here next. That's simply how militant ideological warfare goes.

Angola has the right idea. They simply said "Nope, we don't want that here" and bulldozed the mosques! Forget taking the gloves off, take them off and attack the root. Islam! Ban the blood thirsty cult and and eradicate it completely. And before somebody whines about "the peaceful religion" and the "peaceful Islamic majority" don't make me laugh! The majority of German's were peaceful but allowed the Nazi minority to kill and subjugate millions. The majority of Russians were peaceful but allowed the Communist party to kill and subjugate millions. The Chinese majority were mostly peaceful but allowed Mao and his henchmen to do the same. If the good people remain silent and those that can do something sit on their hands the fight will come to your doorstep very soon!

Are you telling me that operatives can't infiltrate these hate mosques? Rubbish!! Are you telling me that the known trouble makers can't be stopped? Rubbish!! We are too soft! Here's a suggestion: If one person in convicted of terrorism / incitement / subversion then the whole family is deported. If this happened we would soon have people squealing on those they know to be militant! BUT no, we are far too soft! And they use that against us!

I'd pick up a gun or drive a bulldozer. Would you....?

Been going on for few years now...but escalating in last year or so....savagery by them on villagers is bad...as I have said in another thread on this subject....couldn't put videos on here as they would freak everyone out....just think of a primitive butchery shop and that will give you a small idea on the parts of bodies strewn around and hacked ....the savagery is just unbelievable.....:(

Spike, I honestly think that the 'Panga' may have killed more Africans than any assault rifle in the Dark continent. It is extremely sad, but that's Africa!

Big whoop! Ever hear of Iraq or Afghanistan? Vietnam? Grenada? Korea? For that matter, how about 9/11? Get off your high horse!

Mozambique is not being ignored. The US is not sitting on the sidelines. The world is big and DOD has limited resource to support a global fight. Threats are prioritized and executed as the threat to the homeland is increased. There are things beginning to happen. With that said the continent of Africa should bear the brunt of this. Center of gravity for an insurgency is the people. Their people. The countries either manage their populations responsibly or they will be exploited by other actors.

Israel has the right idea: "You infringe on me and I'll annihilate you". A few well placed missiles have a great effect on getting people's attention. Find 'em and take 'em out.

Such a shame. What are the videos that you guys are talking about?

I am of the opinion that when we help countries in situations like this, we gain a piece of their country in proportion to the % of their non-US linked GDP that we spend.

I have no inside information on this but I doubt this is going over well in Tanzania.

The first 25-50 miles inland from the ocean stretching from Arabia into Mozambique is predominately Muslim. Most Muslim's will not care for the violence, but it gives a release and sense of being to the unemployed, testosterone laced young men.

America has had special forces in East Africa to help deal with Al Shabaab, and in west Africa to help deal with Boco Haram. (Not to be confused with Poco Harum and a Whiter Shade of Pale ;) ) It wouldn't be surprising if Tanzania invites American forces in to do some clandestine work.

It also wouldn't be surprising if the GCC sends in some help instead of Americans. This would fit in well with the Trump Doctrine of extricating itself from policing the world. The GCC did an great job in Syria and Iraq in dealing with ISIS, and in Yemen deal with the Houthis.

It also seems likely that the Tanzania military will be the public profile of what is happening even if they are in a secondary position. Tanzania might be able to handle this themselves if there is cross boarder problems. The political problem is that Tanzania is 1/3 Muslim.

US SOF has been in and out of Tanzania for years.. there are also Dept of State resources from both Africa Bureau and the Counter Terrorism Bureau that have done work with Tanzania’s military and law enforcement units...

As well as other US agencies that probably shouldn’t be named

The US military is actually extremely good at asymmetric warfare...

Winning is merely a matter of the politicians, and the populous allowing it to happen, and being willing to accept what “winning” actually means...

The problem lies with the US government, the media, and the general population being unwilling to let the military go the distance..

Not with the fight being un-winnable

Exactly......Damn bleeding heart piss ant politicians and media doesn't care about how many US soldiers are wounded or killed as long as they get their political votes or news story.....especially if the news story is derogatory toward the US military!

Aaahhh......Don't know what kind of point you are trying to make with your comment...

We are still in Iraq....Iraq part 3
We are still in Afghanistan.....part 2
Vietnam and Korea...were both political and home front BS... draws which sent the US into a down slide: politically, economically, militarily.

Granda....was just a "training excercise"....as we went in with a plan and came out after fully and successfully completing that plan and without further political or media interventions.

Granada, was in no comparison to a war or major conflict. A two fold mission: First: a rescue. Second: to subvert a coup of the US friendly government by "radicals".

9/11...Beirut...Benghazi....
Well...one description is about as good as another.

Unless they discover oil or some other resource we need I doubt we will get involved beyond words.

Politics!
China is buying up Africa.

DOS is taking an active role. The last 12 months has forced them to understand it is less political risk to have an active role than an incident in country.

My point, and I thought it would be obvious to anyone paying attention, was to the earlier assertion that we aren't willing to get involved, which is a total absurdity! And further to the point, it is exactly the lack of success in some of these ventures that makes doing so again without the will to follow thru and finish the job, sheer folly! I thought my point was pretty obvious, surprised you didn't.

How do you define finish the job? Not sure how “we are not willing to get involved“. Is getting involved an AC-130 and HAF package or capacity building / DOS contracted advisor teams? This goes back to an earlier post of mine. Where do you pull resources from? There are only so many of everything in the inventory. To invest in something you need to divest of something else.

It would certainly be a good thing if folks would actually read the post they are responding to. I never said we aren't willing to get involved, a previous poster did and I replied to him. I define finish the job as I mentioned in an earlier post where I mentioned Harry Truman, remember? He finished the job!
You seem to have me confused with other posters. We are on the same page.

I do remember what you posted. No issue being able to read on my end. Your post had some thoughts I wanted to comment on. Not try to call you out. Also Truman‘s solution then might not be the most applicable now.

You included Granada and 9/11, which have nothing to do with Iran 2 and 3, Afghanistan 2, Vietnam or Korea.

Granada, for what it's worth was considered a victory.

Iran 1, was for practical purposes a more or less victory.

Afghanistan 1, ended for the Russian the same way Vietnam ended for the US thus a very minor moral victory.

9/11 was a terrorist act leading to a never ending war against terrorists. Much like the ending war on drugs and drug cartels.

Afghanistan changed from being a gorilla war action to anti terrorist threat.

Iraq 2 was popular opinion vs politics and Bush Jr, responded in kind, which led to Iraq 3 becoming another anti terrorist threat.

Actions in Afghanistan and Iraq gave credence to Iran and even a bigger anti terrorist threat and more chaos in the mid east.

Making a peace deal with terrorists would be compared to cops making peace with criminals, giving them free passes to continue their respective violent acts.

The only way to end terrorism is to convert to Nazis SS tactics, through cooperation with other countries pro and anti America going house to house rounding up guilty and suspected terrorists then quickly without trial executing them.

Personally I say Hell Yeah. Realistically when considering the "big picture", Definitely not a good idea.

Agreed on Truman, but its the will to do what is required to win that is lacking and has been since WWII. I think we can agree on that.
