Well gents as of today I've joined the ranks of fellow big bore addicts on this forum. I blame gateway calibers such as .340 weatherby and .45-70 for leading me astray.

In about a weeks time I will have a .375 h&h zastava lh.

Out of curiosity do I just start looking for an action to build a .404 on now or wait a bit....

Well, .375 H&H is a gateway drug. I think next should be a .500 caliber, maybe a .500 Jeffrey? You can reload it mild to .500 NE ballistics or go all out close to .600 NE ballistics.

Start now, takes a while to find a decent action ;-)

Congrats!

Well done sir! You will love the .375 but you are wise to recognize that the adventure will not stop there! By the way, I know you like to bear hunt. The 270 gr AFrame is an awesome bullet to load for bear. It just turns them into a big bag of jelly!

bears are my favourite, there's something magical about pitting my skills against a fellow top predator.

You will love the 375 H&H. Perfect rifle for Africa. You can take anything from a Steenbuck (swap out that soft point for a solid) to a buffalo. And you also have that confidence of going through a bit of brush.
congratulations.

Congrats on the new addition!

Congrats on your .375 Zastava! I love my .375 Whitworth. My gateway caliber to the larger bore rifles was my .338WM. If your .45-70 is a nasty recoiling 18.5” barreled rifle, the .375 will be surprisingly more pleasant to shoot.

Congratulations, I sold a .458 to get my .375 H@H , I can’t use 2 and I wanted the Classic cartridge chambering and it feeds well and is versatile for me. But if need you another sit tight I guess there will be more suggestions.
Australia lucked out in the Bear dept. maybe one day I pursue them . I didn’t I would hunt Africa but I got there.

Good for you!! now that you have a 375 H&H (almost) safely in hand, there is no time like the present to begin your quest for a 404 Jeffery. From time to time one shows up here or on Gunbroker. When they do don't hesitate because they aren't available very long. Brickburn can give you some tips on how to get a rifle from the States into Canada.

I've got a canoe in bear trip planned for this fall, if it works out I plan to invite friends from here to go on future adventures into the Tobeatic, @Bob Nelson 35Whelen has first dibs

Congrats on the 375.
Let us know how it shoots.

A lot of folks start with a 300RUM as a donor for a 404J build.
Depends on the type of action you want...CRF vs PF.
I'll duck for cover now.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
