This is an interesting story and, presumably, this rhino will be purchased and hunted. I don't have a problem with that. Where are all the rich Anti's?
This story is from Facebook. Scroll to the bottom to see how amazing this rhino is.

Who wants to buy a rhino?

Rhino conservation in a nutshell

The most expensive hunting trophy in the world or a very grumpy pet? A record-breaking black rhino is being auctioned and sold to the highest bidder.

On the 9th of October at 12:00 (UMC +1) bidding closes on a South African black rhino bull that is causing major problems to the owner who is building a population of these critically endangered animals on his property. The problem is that this highly aggressive bull kills the rhino cows that it is supposed to breed. So far, two perfectly healthy cows have been lost to the bull and the animal must, therefore, be removed from the private nature reserve in order not to do any further damage to the rhino population.

Due to the circumstances, the owner of the rhino has been granted one of the nine CITES export permits for black rhino hunting trophies that South Africa holds for 2020. This means that the rhino may be hunted and that the trophy may be exported. The rhino is presumed to carry the largest set of horns of any living black rhino on the planet and that fact is expected to attract a lot of attention from the international hunting community. The opening bid for the rhino bull is 680,000 USD. Should it be sold at that price or more it will probably set a world record as the most expensive hunting trophy in history.

It is however not given that the rhino will be hunted. In fact, anybody can buy this animal as long as they are willing to pay the price and remove the animal from the area where it is currently doing damage. So if someone with a will to pay for this rhino want to buy the bull as a pet or simply to save it from being hunted they are more than welcome to do so. What matters to rhino conservation is that the animal fetches a high price and is removed from its current location.

IUCN – the International Union for Conservation of Nature – lists the black rhino as a “Critically Endangered” species on their red list. The organization does, however, acknowledge the positive role that regulated trophy hunting has so far played in relation to rhino conservation. As the organization clearly states in its 2016 briefing paper “Informing Decisions on Trophy Hunting”:

“Trophy hunting programmes have contributed to the recovery of African White and Black Rhinos”

The current population of black rhino is around 5,000 animals and increasing. Many of the animals in South Africa are privately owned. Since the CITES meeting in 2004 limited sport hunting quotas have been approved of up to five surplus males annually (to further genetic and demographic conservation management goals) for the two range states with the biggest populations (South Africa and Namibia). In acknowledgment of the results achieved so far CITES agreed to increase the South African hunting quota to nine from 2020.

Jens Ulrik Høgh, a spokesman for the hunting organization Nordic Safari Club, hopes that everyone with an interest in rhino conservation understands that rhino conservation costs a lot of money and that the sale of animals not needed in the breeding program is an important source of income for the people currently breeding and protecting the rhinos.

“As much as I appreciate that the international hunting community can sustainably hunt a few selected black rhinos a year I must acknowledge that rhino conservation is much more important than my personal affinity for hunting. I hope that this animal is sold for the highest possible price and swiftly removed from the area. Whether it is bought by a hunter or someone who just wants to own the bull as a pet is not relevant to rhino conservation. I am fine with both. Nature conservation is bigger than our personal feelings”

For obvious security reasons, we cannot reveal the location of the rhino nor the contact details of its current owners.

Here is the obvious question (and the answer).

Mark Robson
Can they not tranquillise and remove its horns so it can’t kill the females? It must have great genetics.

  • Jens Ulrik Høgh
No. It's too aggressive to use as a breeding bull. And it will kill the females in any case .... it will just take a little longer without the long horn...

Then Jens posted this open letter to some prominent Anti's

Open letter to Ricky Gervais, Kevin Pietersen, and Trevor Noah

Dear Ricky, Kevin, and Trevor,

Do you want to buy a black rhino?

The reason I am asking you is, that there is a rhino bull on auction in South Africa right now. It will be sold on Wednesday, October 9th to the highest bidder.

The owner is selling the animal because it is extremely aggressive to other rhinos in the area. So far it has killed two healthy rhino cows it was supposed to breed and it is obviously bad for the future rhino population. So the bull must go and the South African authorities have granted the owners one of the nine CITES hunting trophy export permits for black rhinos for 2020. It is expected that the animal will be sold to a hunter (which is fine with me). However, it doesn’t have to be so. You can buy this animal. Everyone can. All you need to do is to be the highest bidder, pay for the animal, move it to a place of your choice and take care of it for as long as you own it. You can even give it a name of your choice. With a little luck, this animal can be your own exotic pet for up to about ten years more.

The money from the sale goes directly to the owner of the animal who has invested millions in rhino conservation already and he intends to continue to do so. Obviously, he is going to replace this animal with a more productive breeding bull, he has set aside thousands of hectares of land for the project, it has been properly fenced, and he is financing top-notch anti-poaching security on the property. It is not difficult to see why rhino conservation is extremely expensive. Right now the main source of income to most rhino owners is the very limited sale of surplus bulls like this one.

Here is your chance to show the world, that your passion for nature conservation is not limited to words. You can actually buy this rhino and demonstrate in real life exactly how your solutions for rhino conservation work. You can buy it alone, along with other celebrities, with your millions of fans or however you prefer to raise the funds. You can even buy land, fences, more rhinos and facilities to take care of them and all the other wildlife you might purchase. Actually, you always could but since it never happened I assume you didn’t know? Now you do know! Nothing is stopping you. If you – or any other kind-hearted animal lover – do not buy this animal it will most certainly be hunted in the near future. Because it has to go.

For obvious security reasons, I cannot reveal any details about the rhinos current location or its owners. As you know poaching is still a serious problem. I have however created this temporary email address for you – or any other seriously interested buyers – to use if you want me to forward offers and details to the owners: sa.rhino.2019@gmail.com. The opening bid is 680,000 USD.

So …… do you want to buy this rhino?

P.S. The photo in this letter is the actual bull in question. It is presumed to carry the largest set of horns of any black rhino bull on the planet …. Just a fun fact to tell your future guests who see the rhino on your property.

All the best

The horns are worth over one million dollars. The anti-s won't pony up that kind of money. For them, talk is cheaper.

WOW! Wha a great way to put them on the spot! Wouldn’t it be great if SCI took out a full page add in USA Today and posted this with relative data about real Conservation work ongoing across the globe that includes hunting.

I’m anxiously waiting to hear if any of our elitist Hollywoodies does something! Or maybe Disney studios!:ROFLMAO::p

I wish they would buy it and all of them get in a pen with it.

Yes and i will furnish the female rhino costume for them to wear.
The cow costume scene in Top Secret comes instantly to mind!

I'd love to get some semen samples, blood samples, and maybe some skin grafts. A rhino like that only comes once in a lifetime and those genes neep to be kept for prosperity.

I'm also gonna admit that the child part of my brain wants to buy him and train him to be my mount/faithful wing rhino.

And that may be quite a true statement if he keeps killing his girlfriends!
Sorry, just couldn’t pass that up!

Hmm.... might have value as a service animal for some rich Liberal

I like the idea of the letter but what if they actually do it? Hunting blocks in Zimbabwe are already being bought by greenies and taken out of trophy hunting. Even worse they don’t patrol them. I was in Zimbabwe last year with Mbalabala and this was a worry for them. Remember we spend more money to hunt currently but there is a bleeping truckload out there to spend on these types of things. If a homeless guy can raise over 700,000 usd on go fund me, This is a no brained.

How is this possible?

1) In a light of Zimbabwe land reform issues?

2) In a light of keeping sustainable population? Dont they need to report back animal census to some authority? Not patrolling the area will bring the poachers in.

3) in a light of annual financing to keep operation running? Photo safari turists? Anything else?

It would be a good thing in this case as it would maximize the money being spent on rhino conservation. Remember in this case the money would go to the owner, who is conserving rhinos, not a corrupt government as in your Zimbabwe example.

And don't hold your breath on ARA raising the money and buying this.
  1. They'd have to pay money out to buy the rhino
  2. They'd have to pay money out to relocate the rhino
  3. They'd have to pay money out to care for and protect the rhino for the rest of its life
All would take money out of their personal pockets which they don't want. The last thing they want is individual donors contributing directly to conservation and losing all of their profit!

Bottom line is this bull is past his breeding capability irrespective of horn size. Hunting him and ploughing back a certain amount of the proceeds to conservation is the only way to go. Buying and relocating is not the best option. He will then proceed to kill more rhino and eventually get killed by a younger stronger bull or die from starvation due to the loss of his teeth ...a slow and painful death....greenies have no brains when it comes to reality or conservation ..

HUNTING THIS BULL IS THE ONLY AND BEST OPTION FOR CONSERVATION OF THE SPECIES.
