Black Wildebeest from waterholes hides

[Stretch]

I don't recall hearing or seeing anyone taking a Black Wildebeest from a waterhole hide. Has anyone done this? I have noticed most videos show the Black Wildebeest out in the open savannas which makes it quite a challenge with the bow. I am not opposed to stalking but would like a realistic chance to shoot one of these bad boys with my bow.

Hey Stretch I myself have not taken one from a hide but have seen several hunting shows that have. The only problem I could see you having from a hide for Black Wildebeest is if your hunting them in a free range area. Good luck on the Black Wildebeest.

Black Wildebeest are some of the funniest animals in Africa, if you see them standing still, enjoy it. They are clowns, they run and run and run, then they turn their dumb a$$es around and run some more. Funny critters.

This is just my opinion, but they are second from the bottom of my African to do list, Red Hartebeest being at the bottom, just something about backwards horns I guess.

The funny thing is that I always thought the Black Widlebeest was Ugly until I seen one live, had to have it My Friend and PH Rusty took his Girl Friend hunting for Black Widlebeest for her Birthday last month they just had to Facebook me and let me know that she took hers 200 yards from where I took mine and with the same 300 Win Mag that I used. To Cool

Black Wildebeest do have unique characteristics for sure. I look at all of natures animals as individuals some being peculiar, distinctive, symbolic, majestic, but mostly individualized. I don't rate them at the top or bottom of my list just another species that accelerates my heartbeat.

Like I said, Just my opinion, we all have our favorites, mine is the Blue Wildebeest. If I had 30 of them on the wall, it's not enough. Some think they are ugly, but they are the most beautiful of the African spiecies in my eye. Again, just my opinion. If you love them, great. It's all in the hunt and what your after.

I also like the Kudu, Eland, Waterbuck, Zebra, Impala, Black Wildebeest, Gemsbuck, Warthog, Hartebeest, Springbok. Baboon, Blesbuck, etc. etc. ect. Pretty much I like any animal that will give me a good shot.

Unlike the great migrations of Wildebeest in the Serengeti, Botswana and Zambia, where they have to follow the rains and food, Wildebeest is actually territorial. Black Wildebeest like to stay in a given area and frequent one or two waterholes in that area.

The are both short-grass-grazers and can not cut and chew long grass. That is the reason why Zebra and Wildebeest hang out together. Zebra can cut long grass short enough for the Wildebeest to graze on.

If you go to any farm in SA that has Black Wildebeest, the PH or farm workers can show you at what hide they frequently drink. They normally come to water at or just before first light and again just at last light.

The rest of the day thy RUN!!!

I got a Black Wildebeest with my rifle last year and I would love to get one with a bow on another hunt.
Red Hartebeest is on my list for my spot and stalk bow hunt next year.
