Hunting reports
Africa
1
Hi. I am from central Ky. I am an avid hunter, and have been plains game hunting once in Africa. Planning to go back in a couple of years for a Cape buffalo. I am in the beginning stages of choosing a rifle.
We run a training and boarding kennel,so most of my days are spent training dogs. I am 58 and want to hunt buffalo while I can still climb a tree! Looking forward to learning a lot here.

Welcome to AH Huntndog! I'm sure you will enjoy our community.

Welcome to AH.
Tell us about your earlier hunt.
It will be good practice for your upcoming Buffalo story.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome aboard huntndog. Based on your "intro" you are going to fit right in with this "crowd." While you are looking at possible rifles and calibers, don't overlook the 404 Jeffery. That caliber isn't mentioned very often in American Gun Rags, but in Africa it has quite a reputation.

Welcome to AH! What kind of dog training do you do?

Welcome! I'm originally from Dayton, KY (south Cincinnati).
You'll love buffalo hunting!

I train over two hundred dogs a year for obedience. The people bring their dogs here and pick them up a week later. We get every kind of dog you can imagine ,some of which are quite a challenge. The veterinarians in the area have people bring me dogs that are too vicious, scared, etc. It’s fun,but can be hard work. I have just gotten a client who is going to let me hunt his ranch in Texas in exchange fo training a pointing lab,and I just secured my first client from North Carolina who is buying an Australian Labradoodle and having it shipped here to be trained for four months. When she gets the dog at six months it should be completely trained ,socialized and well behaved.
I hope to keep going in the direction of training fewer, but high quality dogs.

I finally talked my wife into letting me go on a cape buffalo hunt. She was a bit freaked out by what she had heard, but my taxidermist friend assured her that it should be safe,so we are looking at 2020

Welcome to AH sir. Hunting Black Death will be a grand adventure!

Welcome, looks like you did well on your first trip to Africa. Enjoy the journey for your next Safari for Black Death. I used the outfitters .416 Rigby for my first Cape Buffalo hunt in Zambia, needless to say I was so impressed with the caliber I have now purchased my own. If you are looking for a great place to hunt buff check out @Mbizi Safaris in Zambia, first class operation.
