Just received a quote for my taxidermy bill. I'm doing European mounts on kudu, wildebeest, gemsbok and flat skin on wildebeest.
$1140 USD. That's R15,857. Does this seem a tad on the high side for skull mounts and a flat skin? According to the taxidermist 2016 price list, it should have been R8600.

.... it is almost double the price list ... so yes!

Update:

I received an email from the taxidermist stating that the clients my PH took had a different price list than the list I was sent prior to my hunt. Therefore, if you hunt with my PH, your taxidermist bill doubles in price. I'm either the biggest SOB on the planet or this is the most crooked way to do business and treat people I've ever seen. If this is how all African companies work I'll dang sure keep my money in North America.

yeah- that ain't gonna work !!

Yes of course, the quote was strictly for taxidermy work. Export/shipping was not part of it.

I have a price list from a taxidermist in Port Elizabeth. His price for European mounts for the 3 animals you have listed, plus the backskins come up to $1092. Based on this one data point, I'd say your $1140 is right in line with that.

Backskins for all 3? I'm only doing one backskin. The original quote is $500 less than what they invoiced me for. They are making it right though.

Patrick R: The pirces you have listed look like the price for a bleached skull only. Are you sure that is the correct price for the full European mount?

No, I counted only one backskin.

Kudu @ $304
Blue W @ $357
Gemsbok @ $304
backskin @ 127
Total = $1092

Hi Ryan
This was 2014 but look at the part of the bill here. $45 for a raw skull boiled and $225 for a skull and flat skin tanned. For three skulls and one hide that would be $315? Is your bill including everything to you?

Is there a difference? They have to attach a plaque to the skull for exporting purposes. The original taxidermy prices are very close to what Patrick R has depicted. My concern was the $500 USD difference with the original price and my invoice. They are making it right, but, charging hunters more for hunting with a particular PH isn't right to me.

The invoice was:

Kudu Skull Mount $265
Gemsbok Skull Mount $275
Wildebeest Skull Mount $300
Wildebeest Flat Skin $300

There are two price lists.

Yes I've got that figured out now. There's this odd and seemingly unused term called "communication" this last trip was void of.

Two different price lists sounds like a big kick back to the outfitter to me
