I was curious if anyone Is now or has been through Johannesburg since the protests have started and if so have they disrupted you travel to your hunt or been a safety problem in general?

I know the protests are against foreigners and I’m assuming from what I’ve seen it’s illegal immigration from neighboring countries has that been targeted. But have they messed with any hunters or tourists that you have heard?

I haven't checked ZA news24 in a long while, but if it is like back 2017....

IIRC, it was on my first trip to RSA in 2017 South Africans were protesting something or rather. They were burning tires and doing other "odd" rather "non typical American mob type protesting" protest type crap.

I asked...
Me: What is it with all the tire burning?
My PH said: Typical protesting.
Me: Huh???
My PH: Nothing to worry about. They know not to mess with foreign tourist.

Short version interpretation of our conversation:

SAPS would be all over them
(aka. SAPS would be beating the hell out of them).

Bad for tourism
(government wouldn't like it if a tourist was assaulted, and would demand SAPS to beat the hell out of them on their way to jail/prison).

Me: no verbal response....silently....hummm
.....O k eee.

I am South African living here….what protest?

It has not yet made RSA news.... All we are reading about lately is a politician firing a gun in public and being convicted, a croc that ate someone and off course Iran and the oil prices...

My buddy had asked me what was going on and had showed me a video a last week of a reporters down there they where out in the streets with spears and machetes chanting chanting. I was curious if it was just media hype or media suppression and if it was more about illegals or all foreigners.

Meanwhile in the United States, people are doing the opposite, protesting FOR illegal immigrants.
Can't make up this stuff. Must be the water.

I’m not saying that Johannesburg is a peaceful garden spot. There are parts of it I would avoid. But these overly dramatic YouTube articles are meant to grab attention. I wouldn’t hesitate to travel through JNB on my way to and from safari. I live in the St. Louis area. I remember the Ferguson riots back in 2014. The press would have had us believe that the whole city was on fire. The rioting was actually limited to a few square blocks. The rest of STL went on business as usual…which in North STL includes an appalling amount of plain old murdering!

That’s what I was wondering. I still pay attention to small journalism outlets and articles(with some skepticism) because I remember back in 2009-10 when (and this is a different matter of course) they were going after the boer in SA no mainstream outlet in America talked about it. I was working with a guy from Sudan who was going to school to be a doctor and he mentioned it to me. I found a few small articles talking about it and the LA Times of all places accurately reported the killings. Never heard a peep in the states until 3-4 years ago from main stream and regular people.

It's no just Johannesburg...... Here is a Native Nigerian explaining the situation

Think hesevreffering to the ones few years back where they were looting and burning everything.... except bookstores.
Probably like the U.S. They loot the shoe stores and take everything but work boots.

Unfortunately, almost everything published in media, large and small, has been written by a concave-chested nitwit who lives in a hermetically-sealed world where stilted thoughts are confused with reporting and thought. The gap between what is actually happening, and what media reports, is usually unusually wide. Yes, you have to take precautions in Jo’burgh, but the same is true in Buenos Aries, Paris, London or (insert wherever you are going).

I was just there May 13 and didn’t notice any but I did notice what looked like a massive building fire way off the main highway. Not your normal tire burning but some serious black smoke just rolling like an old Cummins turbo diesel after a 18 year old got ahold of it.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob

Good morning. I see that you had a Sauer 202 for sale for $3,000. Did you sell it at that price?
I have one for sale as well. I listed it (on here ) at $3,000 as well. Is the price high, low or right where it should be?

Thanks. Alex. [redacted] in case you want to call me to discuss further. I appreciate your time help and support.
