Politics

Clearly even conservative veterans like Ward Clark are finding the administration's position on Ukraine unintelligible and inexplicable.

In a sense, like Biden, I am beginning to wonder if Trump has any more of a handle on the reality of this situation than his predecessor. He has loyal sycophants lauding this latest effort to win the Nobel Peace Prize while sane realists like Rubio on the inside and Jack Keane on the outside hustle before the cameras attempting to say, "what the President meant to say .........."

Meanwhile, Mooch and his guest evidently conclude either this administration is very nearly criminally naive or complicit with Russian strategic goals. As someone who devoted his professional life to national security issues, the last few days leave me heartsick.

I thought this was spot on...perhaps there should be some sort of age limit for what is often described as the toughest job on the planet.

While that meme is true.. its a little bit biased in its intent and a bit of an unfair comparison... Clinton was VERY YOUNG when he was elected.. he was just 46... He is truly at the polar opposite of the spectrum and is in no way typical or average... Only Teddy Roosevelt who was a few days shy of 43 when he first took office, and JFK who was about 43.5 years old when he was sworn in were younger.. Clinton is the 3rd youngest US president ever.. and far and away the youngest in the last 50 years..

If you take the average age of all US presidents when sworn in, the number you get is 55.. if you remove the 3 really young ones listed above and then consider that the average life expectancy for US presidents prior to 1900 was just 69 years (most of our early presidents died well before they reached 70.. only a few lived longer), and remove those guys (they were all elected at younger ages than modern presidents and died at much younger ages), the median age at time of the election for US presidents elected between 1900 and today is 57 years old... which would be a much more fair comparison than Clinton who was just 46...

Granted both Trump and Biden are still VERY OLD by comparison with the median age (57).. Trump was 70 when he first took office.. Biden was 78...

But.. Ronald Reagan, arguably one of the most successful presidents of the modern era was 1 month shy of 70 when he took office (just a few months younger than Trump).. Carter tried to make an issue of Reagans age during one of their debates.. Reagan very funnily and candidly hammered Carter on the issue and gained popularity as a result..

I think the issue with establishing an age limit on political office would be getting the politicians to pass the law in the first place.. it doesnt matter what their constituents want.. its not in their personal best interest to limit themselves.. so you'll never get the majority on board with the idea.. there will always be some sort of excuse why THIS version of the bill was unsuitable and couldnt be voted on, etc..etc..

It was Mondale, not Carter, that was the butt of the joke.

Another Reagan funny moment about his age.

Now Hegseth has gone too far: (full disclosure: I am an Eagle Scout - 1976)

"Statement Regarding NPR Story on Scouting and the U.S. Military
Scouting Family,

This morning NPR aired a story about a supposed leaked Pentagon memo directing the U.S. Military to sever ties with Scouting America. According to the story, the draft memo, which has not been sent to Congress, indicates that the Secretary of War plans to cease support for youth in Scouting programs on military bases in the U.S. and overseas, cut support for the National Jamboree, and eliminate increases in pay grade for Eagle Scouts who enlist in the military.

Listen to the story here or you can read the story here.

We are surprised and deeply saddened by this news. The Scouting movement has had a strong relationship with our nation’s military going back more than a century. From the tremendous support of the West Virginia National Guard at our National Jamborees to Scout troops that provide stability for the children of military families deployed around the globe, our nation’s military has walked side-by-side with Scouts for generations. An enormous percentage of those in our military academies are Scouts and Eagle Scouts. Our Scouts and leaders admire and are inspired by our military heroes. Many of our Scouts trade their Scouting uniforms for the uniforms of our nation’s armed forces.

According to the story, the draft memo purports that the Scouting organization is “no longer a meritocracy” and does not hold members to high standards. This view is clearly uninformed. Badges and ranks are not given, they are earned. Just ask any Eagle Scout. Young men and young women alike thrive in Scouting. Scouts wear an American flag on their sleeves and swear a duty to God and country.

Scouting isn’t something we do. It’s something we are.

Scouting will never turn its back on the children of our military families. Just as we always have, Scouts will continue to put duty to country above duty to self and will remain focused on serving all American families in the U.S. and abroad.

Scouting is and has always been a nonpartisan organization. For more than a century, we’ve worked with every U.S. presidential administration – Republican and Democrat – focusing on our common goal of building future leaders grounded in integrity, responsibility, and service. We will continue our efforts to work with the Pentagon to address this critical issue.

At the same time, I encourage each of you to contact your senators and congressional representatives immediately and ask for their support. You can locate contact information for your representative at these links: House and Senate.

Some of you may be discouraged by this news, but, just like the service men and women of our military, a Scout is brave. I see this as a clear call to redouble our efforts. All youth are in crisis today. They need the fun, adventure and the challenging, character-building programs of Scouting more than ever.

Support your local councils. Lift up your fellow volunteer leaders and Scouting families. Let’s prepare the next generation for lives of purpose and impact.
Yours in Scouting,
Roger Krone
Chief Scout Executive
President & CEO
Scouting America"
I’m also an Eagle Scout and currently have a son in Scouts.

Unfortunately this is a bed that BSA has made for itself by chasing the “current thing” for the last decade in an attempt to maintain relevance. National has made shortsighted choices that have pushed a lot of conservative scouts and scouters out and now are lamenting that this has finally put them in the crosshairs of an anti-woke administration just like every other group that has done so.

Did you know that since 2022 (though the idea came from 2020) there’s been an eagle required merit badge based on DEI? This is the first requirement:

“1. Before beginning work on other requirements for this merit badge, research the following terms and explain to your counselor how you feel they relate to the Scout Oath and Scout Law: identities, diversity, equality, equity, inclusion, discrimination, ethical leadership, and upstander.”

I think Dr. Tanner is going to find that Texas is the wrong state to toy with... and the Permian Basin is definitely the wrong place to be screwing around.. big oil (and independents alike) run the PB.. as soon as someone or something starts to upset that applecart, there are multiple companies with billion dollar check books that are going to take action to "fix" whatever they perceive to be wrong..

Everything within a 150 mile radius of Odessa is its own little world.. things out there are different than pretty much everywhere else I have found..

EU Chief Says ‘Russia’s Mindset Has Not Changed’

https://www.newsweek.com/russia-ukraine-war-news-updates-trump-plan-putin-11110466

The European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said that Russia's "mindset has not changed," despite its reported intentions to engage in peace talks.

"From the start, Russia has always believed that they can outlast Ukraine, Europe and all of its allies," von der Leyen told the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday.

"And it is why every time there is serious progress towards negotiations that can bring about a real peace, the violence escalates.

"We have seen this before. This is a pattern. And the noises from the Kremlin in the last few days say a lot about its real intentions. For them, Ukraine remains a first step in a much bigger game."

She added that Russia remains intent on "permanently redrawing maps" and reclaiming its lost "spheres of influence."

Tanner-town West Tx? “Melanated Community” ?? First I’ve heard of it but there’ve been recent and continuous similar rumblings emanating from the Houston area… Makes no sense and has been tried many times with disastrous results. Utah- captive wives cult. NM- Muslim encampment near Taos. Portland- love zone. Guyana- Jones people’s temple. NM- cult enclave near Fence Lake (media didn’t even cover that one).. Maybe build border wall type big fence around these areas, wait ten years, return with dozers and clean up crews. Maybe just hand out free, one way tickets to Liberia. Or maybe God and Noah were onto something.

Season 3 for the Landman!

One of my closest friends was a legitimate "landman" (so was his wife).. he made a small fortune during the 80's and then got out of the business.. he started applying his knowledge and skills toward land value speculation and has over the last 40+ years bought up several hundred thousand acres of distressed properties all over TX, OK, AR, and CO.. and sat on them until values come up and then sells them off... he also does REIT type deals on O'Reillys Auto Parts stores and Dollar General stores all over E TX (I think he owns close to 20 O'Reillys at this point and at least a dozen Dollar Generals...)...

He hates that show lol....

My wife and I had lunch with he and his wife a couple of weekends ago.. we mentioned how much fun we were having watching it... and it about sent him into a conniption fit lol..

Tommy taking on the "melanated invaders" in season 3 after he runs the cartels out of PB banking and finance in Season 2 would be a hysterical season! I'd watch lol..

I’m so tired of hearing “Our grandparents could buy a house on one salary, but now we can’t even afford rent on two!”
Yeah, because Grandma wasn’t blowin’ half her paycheck on $12 iced coffee and avocado toast, that’s why!

Back then, if they wanted coffee, they made it at home. With grounds so strong it could remove rust. You didn’t drink it… you survived it.

And Grandma wasn’t out there “brunchin’.” You think she had time for brunch? No! She was at home, cooking something called whatever’s left in the house.

And don’t even bring up Uber Eats.

These people today are crying about money while living in a 4-bedroom house with two SUVs, six streaming services, and matching sleeve tattoos. You think Grandpa had a tattoo? Yeah it said “Korea, 1951.” And it came with nightmares, not realitic shading.

Oh, don’t even get me started on the kids. “We can’t make ends meet, but Brayden needs the new iPhone!” No, he doesn’t! You’re giving an $1100 phone to a kid who still eats glue and boogers.

When we were kids, the family phone hung on the wall. It had a cord long enough to jump rope with, and if you wanted privacy, you had to go stand in the pantry. And somehow, we survived.

And the TV? There was one. One.
It was in the living room, and Dad controlled it. If he wanted to watch bowling, guess what? You liked bowling.

Now every room’s got a 65-inch screen, the baby’s got an iPad, and you’re sitting there wondering why you can’t afford rent.
Because you’re living like rappers, that’s why!

Grandpa wasn’t out here leasing Teslas and buying $12 smoothies called “Detox Sunrise.” He was driving a truck that sounded like thunder and smelled like oil and cigarettes.

They lived within their means. Whatever Grandpa’s paycheck bought, that’s what they had. They didn’t try to keep up with the Joneses. They were just trying to keep the family fed and a roof over their heads.

So yeah, Grandpa could buy a house on one salary. But he also didn’t have 47 subscriptions and emotional-support crystals. He had one support system, Grandma, who told him to suck it up and mow the yard.

Now folks are broke, tired, and stressed… and it’s not because of inflation… it’s because y’all keep ordering tacos from DoorDash like you’re royalty.

Wake up and smell the truth!!

I have guys that work for me that run around in jacked up diesel trucks and wide tires, the truck has never seen a trailer. When the first set of wide tires are worn out, they can’t afford the second set, so they will literally run them bald with cords showing. They all get paid good money, they just have no priorities.

When times get hard this happens.

Has a Jim Jones vibe to it......drink this Kool-aid!
Yep, then again, hiding in plain sight, are the overt, incremental saturation communities like “Dearbornistan” and “Somaliland”.

Just saw, if true and not fake news, messages between US and Russia/Ukraine negotiators being leaked. Who doesn’t think the deep state is deep and entrenched! How many “Vindmans” can there be? Apparently a lot!

And that is good. Based on the transcript Witkoff seems to be a Russian sympathizer.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
