Interesting that one can jump to all kinds of conclusions without any data. Of course, one has to read the whole article and then look at the authors credentials.

From the article:
Thanks @Tanks
I read the article. It reminds me of some of the intelligent idiots I've worked with. Pulling all sorts of threads together to reach very unlikely hypothiesis.

I should be amazed that Newsweek would print such fanciful bullshit. But then, it has a history of non-fact based story telling...

It may have been misguided, but you need to.look st the history of the crusades. They started as a response to Muslim leaders preying on pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land. From it's earliest days Islam has always been spread "by the sword " Very little has changed in the last 7 or 8 hundred years. In more modern.times, what religious group is most.likely to kill or take hostages?
And here I thought they were actually an attempt by Pope Urban II trying to heal the east-west schism by responding to a call for aid from the Byzantine Empire against the Turks. And a pretty aggressive attempt by many to get rich.

Which religious group is most likely to take kill people or take hostages is modern times is actually a pretty complicated question. If modern times includes WWII, it becomes a very complicated question. The vast majority of hostage taking around the world is done for money, not religion, but it doesn't get much media coverage.

Interesting article displaying mental gymnastics and the authors credentials are telling to say the least.

In my opinion, what this boils down to is a resistance to the return to long standing social norms, just like when Obama got elected there was a segment of the population that held firm to the belief that there would never be another wealthy Caucasian male in the white house and that the racist, patriarchy, military industrial complex, evangelical, ect, ect, ect; dragon of oppression had finally been slain.......

Then came Trump to shatter their egos and their hatred spewed from every orifice, spinning many into the state of psychosis.

The Sydney Sweeney outrage is the same to this segment of the population that thought once Calvin Klein started with advertisements like this....

They would never again have to see an actual attractive woman being in the spotlight ever again, then came along the Sydney Sweeney adds and we are seeing much the same hatred as was given to Trump.... because this hateful segment of the population has once again had their self imposed image of what the world should be shattered.

What I heard was desperate situations call for desperate measures, I truly believe in freedom of religion as long as it not spread by the AK- 47 { sword}, this includes the middle ages crusades , what a waste and misguided thought process. If Christ said my kingdom is not of this world. He did!
What if you were taught that the Allies, for no legitimate reason, invaded German lands in June of 1944?
images.webp

What if you were taught your entire life, that the United States and it's Allies were the bad guys because they raided and pillaged their way across North Africa, Italy and Western Europe in order to spread Capitalism by the barrel of a gun?

NO MENTION that the lands the German Army conquered starting in 1939 were free and independent Nations prior to German aggression. You would think the United States was evil, and that those poor Germans were innocent victims.

Well this is near exactly what the average Western student is taught from kindergarten to graduate school, that the Pope ordered a Christian invasion of Muslim lands, in order to spread Christianity by the sword.

NO MENTION of the 400 years of Islamic invasions of majority Christian Nations prior to the Christian RESPONSE in 1095.

"Before the very first crusade was launched in 1095, Muslims had invaded the following Christian lands. They had invaded, Christian Syria, Christian Jordan, Christian Palestine, Christian Egypt, Christian Algeria, Christian Libya, Christian Morocco, Christian Portugal, Christian Spain, Christian France, Christian Sicily, Christian Turkey, Christian Armenia, Christian Italy. All before the first crusade. The crusades are a legitimate response to Islamic aggression, and Islamic violence. I don't need to hear any lectures about the crusades from people who support Islamic colonialism, Islamic imperialism, Islamic dominion, and arabization." - Bob from Speakers Corner

I think the real message the Sweeney ads have enabled is the freedom for the cultural majority to express its collective disgust with the overreach of the nose ring, gender confused left over the last several years. For too long "normies" were cowed into silence by social stigma and an oppressive and punitive social media. When that worm found space to turn it did so dramatically to the clear confusion of the left. The surprising thing to me is that the left seems determined to die on that hill.

I think it is difficult to generalize about "the left" like that. Not in any meaningful way.

There are many people on "the left" who think that sort of thing is quite silly. Just like many on "the right" think calls for an American theocracy are equally silly.

While I think the whole Sweeny thing is silly and annoying, at least it is just a bunch of people with too much time on their hands expressing their opinion, no matter how daft it may be.

What is really concerning and I would say, frankly Orwellian, is that crap from England where a regulatory body is suppressing expression with no good reason for doing so:

It is quite easy to generalize about the left - particularly its more vocal elements.

Majorities on the left seem all too willing to murder children in the womb, chemically castrate and maim other children, discard the capitalist system, embrace chemical dependency, control speech, and turn the population into obedient chattel through burdensome taxation.

It is Trump's movement that has "triangulated" (to use the Clinton era term) into the middle ground of the body politic in this country.

I would be pleased to see the evidence that any western student, let along the average western student, is taught that stuff about WWII.

"Bob" from speakers corner seems a tad confused about the history of the region and how the world worked back then. He also seems to conveniently forget that Christianity became the official religion of the Roman empire and it was legally imposed on people rather than by choice. IT is also kind of funny to see him suggest that places like Syria, Palestine, Egypt, Libya etc were somehow inherently Christian. He also fails to mention the crusades in other places, such as the Albegesian Crusade, or the crusade against mercenaries, or the crusades through Northern Europe and the Baltic primarily by the Teutonic knights who brought Christianity to those people as least as violently as some of the expansion of Islam. And let's not even get started on the Thirty Years War, the Hussites etc.

Have a look at the history of Libya under the Vandals sometime before they were displaced (by violence) by the Byzantines.

"Bob" from speakers corner sounds a tad like an islamophobic gadfly who wants to distort history for his own purposes.

Then it is fair to do the same about the "right"? To paint that entire part of the spectrum by its most radical elements?

Or is that just demagoguery designed to inflame conflict?

Well said; I believe the left has painted themselves into a rather dark corner by feeding the purple haired hippo tribe's fragile/delusional world views, the leftists understand how vicious these people are and how quickly they will turn on anyone who disagrees with them.

It's like watching a tourist feed a bag of marshmallows to a bear at yellow stone, it's all fun until the bag of marshmallows runs out.

The Democrats have disenfranchised so much of their old guard voting base that not only is the worm turning but it's growing fangs.

So blatantly obvious that a first graders art project became a cultural phenomenon.......

While the left insists this was created to lampoon the rights use of the Gadsden flag, it's adoption and popularity has come to symbolize how the concept of "don't tread on me" is so simple a child can understand it.

Radical elements have sadly become the norm for the left.

FYI that red dress he is wearing is one of the many garments he got from stealing luggage at airports while traveling on federal business.

Funny side note.... This was discovered when an African fashion designer recognized the one of a kind dress from the picture above that was part of a collection that was lost when her bag went missing at the airport, surveillance cameras later showed Briton clearly stealing bags from multiple airport baggage carousels.

Point being, the antics of Marjory Taylor Green and the likes can't hold a candle to what the left has been putting out as normal for years.

Americans are not alone in this however.....

Red Leg points out a huge problem for the left. Trump occupies the entire common sense center.

The left is forced to either agree with his policies or argue against logic and normalcy.

There is such a glaring opportunity for a normal Democrat to swoop in and get elected. But that requires aligning with common sense and in many cases agreeing with Trumps policies. So then that person won’t be backed by the party. It would take someone with deep pockets or backing to ignore the D party.

What were the first two words of my response?

WHAT IF?

My point being WHAT IF the things you had been taught were wrong, and pertinent facts had been purposely left out?

It astounds me that people can't grasp basic fundamentals of logic and reason.

I don't know about that.

How about that member of congress who was groping the groin of her date at a live theatre performance. Can't recall her name right now.

Or that fine George Santos fellow. He was Republican was he not?

Or even Trump who promised to reduce drug prices by what 1000%? Of course he was the one who had to pay hush money to the porn star he was unfaithful to his wife with...

Plenty of clowns to go around.

Oh wait...

I don’t want to make light of the difficulties in society, to have kids, (and this is not aimed at you personally of course) but:
- we still have it better than at any point in time in the past.
- if you make a pro/con sheet on having kids, it will never work. There are too many (selfish) reasons not to have kids.
- people have kids in vastly less advantaged situations and they still grow to adulthood.
- the right education (broadly, not just schooling) is what makes the difference.
- if you look at most high net worth individuals, they average more than three kids (admittedly with as many wives often). But the question could be is this causation or correlation? Or rather, is having more kids (within reason) also an amplifying effect on working harder and making more money?

Just some thoughts (we are contemplating going for a third, although the risk of twins is high)
I tell people my wife and I are billionaires in children. Having five wonderful very successful children plus five wonderful spouses and nine grandchildren is the most wonderful thing in my life. It hasn’t been easy, just the opposite. The risk of twins is real, ask me. Having three boys and wife wanted to try for a little girl and what happens, twins. Got the girl and a bonus boy.

What if "Bob from Speaker's Corner" was wrong? But I am ready to hear how the Vandals in Libya fit into this whole scheme. Or perhaps you can try to explain who Islam's expansion was qualitatively different from Christian expansion?

And certain types of hyperpole make for piss poor argument. That is one of them. But of course Nazis are the first recourse right?

It astounds me that people want to twist history into knots to make a childish xenophobic argument. But that is "Bob" for ya.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.
