If it is the same .500ne, I was quoted $1700 to get it to the US, with $775 being duty. Since the rifle is about double what that one was, I rounded to $2500.

Funny you say what you were quoted. The gun I purchased was significantly more than this one and when all was done it was only $1500 Duties & Shipping. I too was quoted more than it ended up being....

Cool gun. Be advised, it isn't the 375HH many might be thinking of. Its a lethargic 2.5" long cartridge that was used a lot in Europe in the early 20th century.

This was the new one on Ralph's site several months ago. I think it looks better in person and in my picture than what was shown in the for sale listing. Also very happy with how it is breaking in and shooting. Happy it's on the heavy side too. Really wakes you up off the shooting sticks! Not bad when shooting off hand....

Yes, that is indeed the 2.5" .375 Rimless Nitro Express. As @rookhawk suggests, it is a pretty anemic old round suitable for red deer and wild boar. The British created a number of Lee Speed rifles around that cartridge.
