IDK. Anybody who would vote for Fetterman, I don't think it would have mattered which candidate the GOP ran.

That was my point exactly.. How many republicans and independents voted for Trump twice, not because they liked him but because they realized he was by far the better candidate regardless of his character flaws and personal baggage..? The democrats don't do this under any circumstances.. They have a cult-like party devotion that they would never violate regardless of how bad their candidates truly are.. Sadly, this blind ideology seems to have served them well to this point..

When does the spring thaw come to Ukraine/when will conditions improve to battle manaeuverability?
Early spring actually makes conditions worse than they are now… the entire region becomes deep/thick mud which significantly impairs both tracked and foot movement…

Late spring/early summer when things dry up a bit is when things will move more freely on the battlefield…
The "Rasputitsa" occurs twice a year for a period of about six weeks. I makes off road armor movement almost impossible. The fall muddy season, more than anything, saved Moscow from capture during operation Barbarossa in 1941. It also was why the choice of 24 February as the launch date of the current Russian offensive was puzzling to a lot of Western military professionals. The frozen winter ground is ideal for armor, but the Russians had already squandered half of that period before attacking. That meant that their window for decisive operations was very small. When the Ukrainian government and Army did not collapse as anticipated, their armor forces were soon trapped on hard surface roads which made them easy prey for UA anti-tank weapons.

The Russians have been promising the world, and perhaps more importantly, their own people a major offensive this winter. It is possible they have already attempted it and no one really noticed. The destruction of two of their premier reconstituted brigades last week had to give field commanders if not Putin pause. If nothing major occurs by the first of March, it is unlikely anything will until late spring when the steppe begins to dry out again.

It appears that Ukraine has been content to bleed the Russian Army this winter as it marshals its strength around newly equipped and trained mechanized brigades for use in the late spring.

Gosh, @Red Leg , your posts are usually most informative. This one however made me roll over laughing! Thank you for that!

So what is your take then Mark? The truth is, just as @Red Leg portrayed it, the winter has been an unremarkable slog, it is what it is. So shouldn't it be said?

I was making a joke of the Russian offensive efforts to date. Pretty sure my marine friend got it and was laughing with me - not at me. :A Secret:

I don't quite understand why the Ukrainians haven't taken advantage of the frozen ground and thrashed the Russkies with a major offensive. Any theories, Redleg?

Yes, I understand soldier very well. Most of it is the same as Marine but a little less intense and no naval jargon. :)

My take is then same as @Red Leg .
I will add to it that Putin will slaughter another 100,000 conscripted Russian troops which makes me cry inside. Those boys don't have a choice and in the long run, won't have a chance.

I remember similar carnage during Desert Storm. That is far from a good memory.
Old men make war where young men will die.

What is worse is that of those old men who make wars, very few will send their sons and day to fight them.

The basic math of warfare doesn't change very much. At a minimum, a successful attack requires a three to one ratio of combat power at the point in space and time where the attack takes place. That does not mean that the attacker needs an army or firepower three times his adversary, but rather he must generate that sort of power at the point of contact.

I had speculated here and elsewhere that the Ukrainians would attempt a winter offensive somewhat parallel to what they achieved in Karkhiv. I suspect what changed was the slow motion attempt by Russia to take Bakhmut - a battle that now has been going on for three months and one in which the UA is inflicting enormous casualties on the Russians - both Wagner and regular forces - on a daily basis. It is probable that the UA general staff has concluded those losses combined with the arrival of Western tanks and armored fighting vehicles could be decisive in setting more favorable conditions and correlation of forces for a counter offensive in the late spring or early summer.

The influence the convict army of the Wagner group could diminish now that Putin has stopped supplying them with weapons although I understand N.Korea is outfitting this criminal group

Interesting data point for the stolen election contingent. The bottom line with respect to 2024 is, I think, the main take away. I should also note "Red State" is hardly a liberal opinion stronghold.

A link to the original story.

Washington Post- …. a hard left leaning rag owned by Bezos. Kind of a print version of CNN.

Read what it says not who printed it. Red State found it compelling enough to cover it - hardly a "left leaning rag." You can rest assured no Trump supporter will ask him about it nor will he volunteer it. If true, what should be concerning to anyone who continues to support Trump is that the "stolen election" narrative is apparently more important to him politically than the welfare of the country.

By the way, I subscribe to the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, National Review, and NY Times. Sometimes the only way to get real news is by using all the filters.

Chinese balloon. Hah! Now the dis info jokers in the admin are saying (yep MIBs have been very busy) it was monitored since lifting off China coast island and was really designed to spy on Hawaii but got blown off course. Somewhere in background of all this China intrigue, there’s the smell of Milley, the seditious, self-appointed savior of democracy.

Give Ukraine what they ask for...they ask for 300 modern western main battle tanks, ATACM long range missiles and fighter jets.. The west have to make a stand NOW...we cannot let Russia win this war..

If Russia keep on conducting missile attacks on civilian targets, then attack Sevastopol, etc, etc..
