ZIMBABWE: DALTON & YORK SAFARIS - Chewore South 2025 Lion, Elephant, Buffalo & Hippo

Excellent hunting report, thank you for sharing

As we entered the last few days of the hunt, our attention turned towards tuskless. We had seen tuskless almost every day, and had made a few brief attempts early on, but then purposely waited on taking a tuskless once the other hunters started bringing in quite a bit of meat. Now we got serious about finding a tuskless, and of course, they became somewhat scarce. We made a few stalks in the dry river beds, but each time the wind swirled and the elephants were gone. This is the time of the hunt when all the major priorities are done and the pressure is off and we were enjoying leisurely lunches and afternoon naps. On the morning of the last full hunting day, we were heading out to drive the river bed by the boundary and happened upon a herd crossing the road. The three cows in the back were tuskless. We hopped out of the cruiser, grab the doubles and gave chase. After moving along parallel to them and getting the wind just right, we were able to carefully observe them and two of the tuskless had calves, but one definitely did not. The cows were moving nearly parallel to us, but slightly towards our direction and we walked straight ahead, vectoring for a shot as they moved closer. Just when we thought that we were in perfect position and they were gonna walk straight in front of us, the wind swirled or something, and the cow turned to face us. She was a little farther away than we would have liked, but it was another now or never situation and we took the frontal brain shot. The 500 double and Hydro solids again did their jobs perfectly. We we’re back in camp by 9 AM and took the rest of the day off to start our last night celebrations.
Great way to end the hunt.

As any one that knows me well would tell you, I’m certainly not an overly sentimental guy. But I would be remiss and the report incomplete if I didn’t at least mention the emotional experiences during the hunt. Hunting lion and bull elephant is hard to fully describe but I imagine many people here understand even if I can’t adequately articulate the experience. It’s life altering. This hunt put me in a contemplative and grateful state and I found myself hyper focused on how fortunate I am to be in a position to hunt in Africa, share the campfire at night with lifelong best friends, hunt alongside consummate professionals that have over the years become like family, walk in a wild place like Chewore were dinosaurs once roamed and megafauna still do - the enormity of the hunt was almost overwhelming and caused me to choke up more than once. This will be the last hunt I go on without my boys tagging along. In 2027, my next hunt at Nyakasanga, they will 7 and 5, old enough to come with me and a new era will begin. I can’t thank Dalton and York enough for taking such good care of us and making all this possible.

Congratulations on what sounds like an amazing experience! I hope to experience at least some of that for myself one day. Thanks for the report for those of us who can't afford to go yet! Enjoyed reading about it. Will there be more video of your hunt?

What a hunt and very good report to go with it. Thanks for adding the short video clips as well. Congratulations.

Vaughn just gave me snippets of kill shots after the hunt. He’s working on the full edit. It will eventually go on YouTube as an episode on Untamed. I’ll post the link when he gets it done.

Vaughn did a really nice job filming the hunt. He was like having an appy PH along. Always ready to jump in and lend a hand.

As a side note, he sells knives on his website and is having a drawing for a double buffalo hunt next year. Sign up ends tomorrow. That would be a great way to afford a hunt!

You had a very special hunt! Congratulations.

Thank you for sharing your experiences via word and video.

Awesome adventure! This is what I dream of!

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
