Up for grabs is a 416 Taylor built on a Brazilian M1908 (98 Mauser action, built pre-war in the DWM factory in Germany.. IMO among the best steel and manufacturing you can find in pre-war mausers).. Its got an ER Shaw barrel and ER shaw did the work on the bolt face and on the action rails (their “magnum conversion” process) so that the rifle will feed the big 416 Taylor case properly. Its also got a Timney sportsman trigger, williams “firesight” iron sights , Warne steel bases, parker hale bottom metal (somewhat ornate compared to typical military bottom metal, and also has an Oberndorf style floor plate release), a boyds walnut stock (with black, polymer tip) and limbsaver recoil pad. Ive probably got $1700 invested in this rifle between all of the various components and gunsmithing involved. Stock and steel show a few safe marks, etc.. but overall I'd say its in very good condition (no deep scratches or obviously worn spots, etc on the wood)..

In addition to the rifle, I’ll throw in:

Lee reloading dies

50 primed cases – resized to 416 Taylor – Head stamped 458 Win Mag - Various brass manufacturers, Winchester Large Magnum Rifle primers

30 Loaded Rounds – Head stamped 458 Win Mag (good for practice) – 350gr Barnes TSX over 69 grains of IMR 4064.

18 Loaded Rounds – Head Stamped 416 Taylor (Norma Brass) – 350 gr Barned TSX over 69 grains IMR 4064

10 Factory Norma 416 Taylor Dangerous Game Solids (375 Gr)

3 “dummy” rounds I built for practice

Plenty of ammo and components to keep you shooting for a reasonable period of time.. Im guessing (haven’t googled or tried to add it up) that the dies, ammo, etc are another $250 in value.. Ive likely got some more 458 WM brass out in the shop and possibly some more 416 Taylor loaded ammo out there as well.. but I cant 100% commit to that.. I’d need to do some digging.. If I come across anymore between now and the time the rifle sells, I will throw them into the deal at no additional cost..

SCOPE AND RINGS NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS SALE.. I’ll be moving the scope over to another rifle..

$1200, shipped to your FFL (ammo and brass, etc I will ship separately directly to the buyer)..

Not interested in any trades at this time..

Listed at one other location as well..

Thanks!

A great caliber...

For those who do not know it, the .416 Taylor is the .458 Win necked down.

It therefore fits comfortably in a standard length Mauser action, without the need to butcher it by removing 1/2 the loading ramp to force-fit a full length .416 Rem, or, as it was called in these days, .416 Hoffman.

More interestingly, despite a much smaller size, the .416 Taylor absolutely delivers .416 Rigby ballistics: 400 gr slug at 2350 fps, but at a considerably lower recoil, about on par with that of the .375 H&H.

I never understood why Winchester did not chamber the .416 Taylor alongside the .458 Win. Literally, all that would have been involved was a differently bored barrel and they would have cornered the entire DG market.

$1,200 ? Really ???

I thought I misread it the first time. This is ridiculously cheap for a genuine Mauser actioned ER shaw .40+ DG rifle. For a fleeting moment I thought of buying and flipping it...

Sure, I am not a big fan of the "engraved" metal bottom, but this is so easy to polish off or replace.

Any reloader even mildly looking at getting into true DG calibers should jump on this one...

If I hadnt bought my second double and a small collection of JM Marlins on saturday I wouldnt have hesitated to buy it. Awesome deal. My 458 is off the same action & I absolutely love it.

Whoever ends up with it will be getting a great rifle at an even better price.

LOP and weight?

I happened upon the 416 Taylor by accident and didnt really do any research prior to owning one...

I was honestly pretty amazed when I first started shooting it.. with 400gr projectiles loaded to right at 2400 fps it was producing just a small amount more recoil than my 375 HH shooting 300 gr..

And when I dropped down to 350 gr bullets, the recoil is almost exactly the same (at least what I feel seems to be the same)..

I actually really enjoy this rifle, and really enjoy the caliber.. Im only selling for 2 reasons..

1) my wife shoots a 375 H&H... Its just easier for me to maintain 1x "bolt action" DG caliber rather than 2... (Ive been consolidating across the entire safe for the last few years.. at one point we had 9 different "deer" calibers in there alone.. now we are at least down to 3.. lol)..

2) Im really thinking seriously about finally picking up a double.. if I end up doing that, having a 450-400 double and a 375 H&H bolt action sort of renders the 416 a little bit moot in my arms room..

LOP and weight?

Im not sure my scales are exactly accurate.. but they should be pretty close.. with the scope it says 9.7 lbs.. whoever owned the stock before I did added Im guessing about 1/2 lb of steel ball bearings to the fore end of the stock.. which really worked out nicely (IMO).. it puts the balance point of the rifle right in front of the magazine.. and the additional weight certainly helps with recoil..

LOP is right at 14"

dibs if first buyer backs out

Congratulations, what a deal ! ....and congratulations on your luck too !
I saw this posting with in 2 minutes of the time stamp and thought WOW, would love to have that !
Then it occurred to me; to good of a deal, somethings not right...@ 1200 ???
Well, I was wrong....and dang I hate that. Seriously, enjoy that rifle, it ought to be fun.

Damn, what a deal. I told my son he needed to jump on it but he is a cro-magnon who said " Why would I need that Dad, I'm not you!" My Granddaughter wouldn't forgo her allowance for the next 2 years for me either. Seriously though, I congratulate the buyer.

...SK You won't be disappointed with the Taylor.

I've had a .416 Taylor since 1988 and have killed a LOT of African wildlife. Impala to elephant. Loads were 2365fps using 400gr Speer AGS, and Swift A-Frames.

My wife (5'-6" 125#) was using a .375H&H for a while. She decided the Taylor was much better for DG than the .375H&H {Her opinion and decision.) And then promptly killed an elephant, and two buffalo with HER .416Taylor.

Recoil in the M-70 is about the same with the .375H&H as in the .416Taylor.

You should be ashamed of yourself for "stealing" that rifle/ammo for $1200

My research shows both Winchester and Ruger built prototype rifles chambered for the .416 Taylor in the early ‘70s but Winchester failed to follow through with manufacturing factory ammo for it, so the Taylor died on the vine, so to speak, as a factory chambering. Too bad as it’s a great cartridge.

The ironic thing is that out of the blue I picked up some new 416 Taylor brass about a month ago!

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
