Who has a 20 in barrel on your 375 H&H

I have one that’s 21”. With the correct loads you can get plenty of velocity, and it’s much more handy to carry. You will notice more muzzle blast, but it’s nothing you can’t live with. It really depends on what you want to do with it. If hunting in thick cover, where shots tend to be closer, I’d say go for it. The velocity loss won’t be much of a factor, and it will be quite a bit easier to get through the brush.
That’s why I like the Blaser R8. You can have a 24.5” barrel, but your overall rifle length is about the same as with a 21” barrel standard bolt rifle.

I cut my .375 H&H to 19in that didn’t seem to effect its ability on game, it was built on a Weatherby Ultralight which made it very light, recoil wasn’t a problem to me but it did have a LOT of muzzle lift that touched my cap most times & scoped me a beauty on a steep up hill shot on a running Sambar Stag one time, didn’t believe in suppressors back then but if I’d docked to 18in & fitted one it would of been marvellous I’m sure !

I have since done that to my 9.3x62.

I have not chopped my Whitworth .375 H&H - yet...

I do have the 20" barreled Ruger Alaskan in .375 Ruger and I liked it so much that I bought a 2nd rifle as a spare. The handiness of the barrel in the brush makes life so much easier!!!! My barrel shoots 100 ft/sec faster than the load books say it will, and with the Custom Dial System on the Leupold scope, it doesn't matter if I have lost 6" of drop at 400 yards because the etched dial already has that difference calculated in. I carry less weight with the 20" barrel, and you carry 99% of the time, shoot less than 1% of the time.

My 375 H&H pre 64 model 70 carbine has a 20” barrel. Apparently Winchester thought it was okay to do.

I have 2 different 375s I chopped down. Sako A5 - 21” and Win 70, 20” both still shoot 300 grains great. Cut the Sako down because it was ported, but then got it threaded to try a can on it.
Chrono’d the sako last trip to the range - 20” bbl, 300 grain aframe 2,475FPS. I chopped the win 70, moved the sight back, then put a McMillan stock on it. Will get it cerakoted next - wanted a short, all weather beater gun.
Happy with both and would do it again

@Berettaco
That load out of your 375 is only 20fps faster than my 310s out of my 35 Whelen.

I have a Blaser R8 with a factory 20.5” 375 H&H barrel and I love it. Lose very little fps with my swift A frames at 2500 fls and it’s a joy to carry in the bush. Took a last day eland at 250 yds ( just the way it worked out ) with one shot. Unfortunately they don’t offer this barrel any longer
