When loading the 500 Jeffery is a filler (foam plug) needed?

Starting to load for this and was curious. Thank you for any and all help!

I make my own foam fillers using pool noodles and an unsized 585Nyathi case that I sharpened the mouth of.

Cuts is nice and round.

Only loaded from 99 to 109gr so far and used fillers every time.

I shoot monolithic bullets, so they are on the longer side. But so far so good.

@DWB Maybe a short video or photos demonstrating how you make the plugs?

Just drive and twist the case into the foam and you will easily cut the foam. You can source closed cell foam very cheaply in numerous thicknesses.

What powder are you using ? I’m going to try H4350 and RL15.

Playing around between N540 and N550.

Seems like N550 will be my go to

@SkullKeeper
you might also consider bulky powders n165 (similar to @DWB or h4831sc (AA manual has load data with pressure for the h4831). I use either in my 505 Gibbs. H4350 is probably a better choice, more efficient, slightly less than 100% load density.

In my .404 Jeff I load 400grn coated hard-cast bullets with 5744 (and no filler) for easy-on-the-shoulder plinking in order to practice good shooting form.

I’d love to find .512 coated hard cast bullets for my A2.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
