A while back I bought this Weatherby Mark XXII. The stock and finish was beat up, and the rifle looked ugly. I bought for a good price, hoping one day to refinish the stock. Well, this lock down has given me plenty of time to do just that. I put in a lot of hours into this little 22, and a lot of TLC. I used a wet cloth and hot iron to remove some of the wood dents. Some light sanding, and here she is.

First picture is of the stock without any finish.
Second picture is after applying a light coat of walnut stain.
Third picture is of the stock after four coats of oil.
Fourth picture is the final product.

The cell phone picture doesn't do any justice to how beautiful this little rifle looks. Enjoy!

Looks great

Turned out really nice!

You do nice work sir!

I had one of these in 17HMR and will forever regret selling it, it was a great rifle.

I'd love to have a bolt 17 HMR, but the prices are too high. I wish Weatherby would bring them back, very accurate little rifles, with the feel of a high caliber rifle.

BTW gents, this is my first attempt to refinishing a rifle stock. It has some flaws, and not perfect at all, but I'm ok with it. If you would have seen the conditions of the rifle when I bought it, and I regret not taking any pictures of what she looked like before. There were times that I was second guessing this purchase. Not any more. :)

PARA45, that looks like time well spent to me. BTW does your moniker have anything to do with your choice of handguns?

Thank you sir! Yes sir, when I first got into shooting USPSA/IPSC I bought a Para Ordnance P14 in 45 ACP. I also carried a Para P-12 in 45 ACP for a while. So, I decided to use that as my screen name, and I've been using it for quite some time now. :)

PARA45, I've been meaning to ask the question for a long time now, just never got around to it. My Para is the Companion model with the carry option. I enjoy shooting it more than any other concealable pistol that I own. The LDA trigger is outstanding.

There's little choice out there for a decent quality, bolt action, "full size feel" rimfire rifle and none of it is inexpensive. There is Sako Finnfire and Quad, Cooper Firearms makes fantastic albeit expensive rimfires (I have a Jackson Squirrel in 22lr - a great gun), there's the Weihrauch HW66 and several models of Anschutz (bolt action Mark XXII is in fact Weatherby stocked Anschutz 64 action and barrel). CZ makes rimfires too but I had a 455 model and although accurate it was terribly put together and very rough. For a brand new prouduct it was unacceptable for me. I tried several in the gun shop and they were all like that. Maybe it was a bad batch but I could not convince myself to keep that rifle and sold it soon after I bought it. I haven't handled the new 457 model, perhaps they've improved them.

Actually, I've just noticed yours is the semi auto. I had the bolt action one which Weatherby had given the same designation for some reason.

Yes, I believe all their 17HMR were bolt action. The 22LR were made either bolt or semi. The one I have was made in Japan.

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
