Here's a good one...just ignore the cheezy dialogue. It's all about the HB!! Don't worry about this one. He's just fine and good to go!

I don't understand why the honey badger isn't listed in SCI. Can somebody explain to me why it isn't, yet they have things like civet and genet in there?

My favorite HB footage was in a documentary, it showed a HB battling a puff adder. The badger gets bit but carries on the attack and kills the snake. You can see the badger start to get sick and wobbly, it finally falls out and appears dead. After a period of time the badger snaps out of it and then proceeds to eat the snake.
I’ve never seen one but when I go back I will take a serious look at hunting one.

I got one back in August of 2022 with my bow. Little fella ran about 200 yards after a full pass through. Tough little bugger. He was top on my list to go for on that hunt.

I shot mine twice with a 375! First time he moved on bait as I fired and the bullet skimmed him. He came back acting as if nothing had happened and I finished it. They are amazing but stink to high heaven.

Saw a film of a leopard biting a honey badger on the throat, trying to choke it as if it were just another antelope. But the honey badger could still breath and was getting madder and madder. Finally it twisted free, attacked the leopard and sent it retreating.
Are they at all related to wolverines?

Yes they are both members of the weasel family (Mustelidae).

Famous footage from Kruger...female leopard with 2 large cubs...the rattle sound you hear is the HB and the deep coughs are the leopards of course. Best part is when HB leaves dancing on his toes.

I've never heard a good explanation for that. Anyone here know why?

One of my favorite two animals Honey Badger & Wolverine, I do love all the Mustelids, part of the reason I breed & hunted with Ferrets/Pole Cats as a child.

Another very underrated awesome killer is the Yellow Throated Marten, like a Kung Fu master & kills way above his weight limit.

The Gods Must Be Crazy II is a great look at HB at work.

Much loved by most farmer/ranchers who dont always want them hunted on the concessions & permits can be limited, I don’t think I’d take another unless he was truly RW size lol !

The HB is called Ratel by most African people, I suppose because of that sound they make when disturbed, he has blown so many Hyena & Leopard hunts, coming in & scaring everyone off, the only animal that didn’t run was a Huge Brown Hyena with a foot missing I saw one night 3 HB coming towards him & he took a step towards them ! ?

Fox Lodge in Tanzania had a honey badger “pet” as well as a giant bush baby (greater galogo) “pet” when my wife and I stayed there in 2009… they were “wild”, but the lodge had trained them both to come visit every dinner meal by putting their favorite foods out for them right next to the wooden deck where guests would eat…

It was pretty cool getting literally just 3-4 feet from the honey badger… he had zero fear of humans.. and I was equally surprised that he didn’t care at all about sharing his lunch with a 5 lb bush baby… they’d sit there, just maybe a foot apart every meal enjoying themselves.. and then casually wander off when they were done..

I’ll have to go dig through old photos and see if I can find some from that trip… we got a few good ones of the honey badger, and got some great close ups of the bush baby..

Yes, ratel is the name and the sound. Martens and fishers are very cool...wicked killers. I had a fisher crawl out of a wood pile and stand up beside when turkey hunting. He couldn't quite figure me out in full camo and head net but kept staring directly into my eyes with his beady little orbs. Too cool.

It is surprising that the Honey Badger isn’t in the record books. Maybe they don’t want to promote killing too many of them ???

It’s similar to the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame. a lot of rock bands and artists that still are not in should’ve gotten in long before the genres they are letting in now.

"There is a bloody brave little animal in Africa called the Honey Badger. It may be the meanest animal in the world. It kills for malice and for sport, and it does not go for the jugular - it goes straight for the groin. It has a hell of a lot in common with the modern American woman."

-- Robert Ruark, The Honey Badger (1965)

I had the opportunity to see several honey badgers in Namibia, but I have never shot one.
First, I didn't have any permit for them, and I don't know if it is still possible to get a permit nowadays for this species ? But most of my PH's loved them because they are effective snake hunters, and a lot of people don't like snakes in this country.

The most memorable encounter I had was in 2017 close to Etosha. I was following my PH and we were on a little hill.
He was walking just in front of me, and suddendly, we heard a terrible scream just under the rock where he was.
He jumped and came behind me while I was pointing instinctively the barrel of my .375 H&H magnum toward the rock where he was just before.
I didn't know what it was, and I was very surprised to see a big HB going out of a little hole under the rock, and going away, but not really scared by us. He didn't take a look at us and while I was aiming it, another one, that was a bit smaller, followed the first one. My PH told me it was a big male and a female, and they were probably mating.

And when I hunted in the Caprivi the first time, a HB came at night in the kitchen, open the door of the fridge and stole a big piece of meat.

I always heard, "the Martens catch and eat the squirrels, and the Sable catch and eat the Marten" or is a Fisher same as Sable?

The HB is so cool that I really wanted one but I don't want to take more of them. I do think it's a highlight of my trophy area and will always generate a lot of conversations. The PHs and trackers love them. Most areas only have a few permits for them.

Any conversation about HB needs to get around to the most famous one....Stoffel...the man...the legend.

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
