Horseback moose hunt 1980

Just as it says, a horseback moose hunt, in 1980 with my very game, but very green future wife. Because I know someone will ask, the rifle is a Win. Model 88, in .358 Win. Offhand at 75 yards, the moose dropped like a stone with a broken neck.

It’s really nice to read about hunting in yesterday years. Funny thing is I would never have thought about using a 358. Just shows you how we have changed over the years. To finish I congratulate you on a fine moose.

Love those old photos. Thanks for posting. Nice moose too!

absolutely stunning!

I think the saddest part about looking at these old photos, is realizing that at the rate that things are going, future generations may look at photos of us with the same longing to a time when it was still possible to hunt certain species.

Jaws,
you're probably right, unfortunately.
And this moose hunt are wonderful memories for a lifetime .
Fine moose,
fine horses,
very fine young lady.
A great wildernesstrip
@Rick
is this a stallion, looking in the camera on your last picture ?

Thanks the kind words. And no, that is a mare. It was a cross between an Arab and a Percheron. Back in the day in that area folks made that sort of cross with Arabs to get more size and dual usage of the horse, while retaining many of the traits of the Arabs. The crosses usually came out muscular with arched necks.
Still married to the same young woman. When you find ones like that you don't let them go.

Arab with Pecheron ?-
Heaven, I hope the Arab was the father :) ;)

I realize how hard the bug has bit. I’m on the cusp of safari #2 and I’m looking to plan #3 with my 11 year old a year from now while looking at my work schedule for overtime and computing the math of how many shifts are needed….

I'd like to get some too.

My wife (a biologist, like me) had to have a melanoma removed from her arm last fall.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?
