Thinking of Moving up to a 375

What a Dilemma,,I,ve been thinking of a 375 either in H&H or Ruger I reload so I won,t have a problem coming up with a good set-up so that won,t be of a problem ,,my main problem seems to be in choosing the right Platform,,,I,ve handled the Remmington,, Winchester M70,,CZ550,,Ruger,,Savage and the Browning,,Weatherby doesn,t make a 375 in the Vanguard,,but Howa who supplies the actions for Weatherby Does which I find strange!,,,my problem compared to my older sporters built on Surplus Model 98s all these new Rifles feel Cheap,,the older stuff seems to be more solid,,the stocks feel and look better I would consider building my own (with help from some one with more experience) but I would need a Mauser Magnum action to handle the length buy a Proper Barrel and get a roughed out stock and work on it this winter,but I think I,d have a 1000.00 in it before any other work,,I can Buy a Howa action with Barrel for a bit over 400.00 then just look for a nice wood stock or buy one new from Boyds,,,I think if I had to make a choice based on feel and features I,d have to Choose between the Browning and the CZ,,,,give me your thoughts and wisdom please,,Rob

I would stalk gunbroker and wait for the right deal to come along. Plenty of gunsmiths to smooth things out.

Those Interarm/Whitworth rifles have always been good Mauser action with good tubes also.

CZ or late model Ruger Hawkeye or Express MkII, both control round feed and great barrels. You cant build a rifle for less than the cost of a new one unless you do most of the work yourself. Its fun and rewarding but not practical from the monetary end of it.
BTW, if you use this mark ' ' ' ' ' instead of this mark , , , , , it wont clutter up your words so much. Like I've, not I,ve, or won't, not won,t. LOL!

Having built my own African rifle (338/06) years ago and not being a gunsmith but I can hog a little metal, unless you just want to do it just to say you did (like me), go buy one and have it slicked up by a good GS. You'll be far ahead. I'm also looking at big bores and I'm focusing on CZ and Rugers. They look like the best bang for the buck to me (although I like to see high end rifles I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on one). I'd love to have a Blaser but again $$$$$$$$$$$$.

After following a lot of Rifle Posts I,m aware that CZ has a very large Following on this site' I own a CZ75 pistol and two CZ shotguns so I,m allready a Fan' if I could find a CZ in 375 HH with a Mannlicher Stock at a right price I,d Jump on it in a second

Cliffy that why the Howa barreled action and fitting a stock has a lot of appeal' Ive purchased 3-4 rifles in various caliber with those cheap plastic stocks and scrounge the web for a second hand or get a partial finish fitted stock from Boyds and fit and finish the stock myself

Earlier this year I was looking for a rifle with a M98 action. I kept a constant vigil on multiple gun websites. A few magnum M98 actions came up for sale in the $400-$800 range if I remember correct. This isn't as cheap as a Howa with a barrel....but if you like M98's.

Just looked at Guns International and they had two different sellers selling new CZ 550 in 375 H&H for under $1,000. Hard to beat the price on a pretty rugged gun. You may be hard pressed to do a custom yourself for that price. All the best on your decision.

Boyd's?!?

I just checked out a .375 CZ, looks like a great rifle. Only thing is I keep hearing about all the stuff that has to be done to one to make it "dangerous game ready," however one of those 'things' are cross bolts in the stock, the one I handled already had them from the factory, I presume. I have to think any other stock issues would be cured with a good epoxy bedding job...

Personally, though, I'd stick with a Model 70. It's pretty much perfect right from the box and not nearly so difficult to locate parts and accessories for, like aftermarket stocks that are far better suited for an African .375 than Boyd's.

Since I already have a M70 .375, if I wanted another .375 I might look at a .375 Ruger Hawkeye African. One of the farm managers I hunted with last September had one and it looked like a great rifle, plus it has a break which makes shooting a .375 even sweeter. Even if I didn't have the 70 it might get the nod.

By the way, of you have $3850 to spend on what may arguably be the best receiver ever made, Feinmechanische Zerspanungs GmbH manufactures a near copy of the Original Oberndorf Mauser Double Square Bridged Magnum actions. These actions are very similar in design and finish as those provided by the famed Hartmann and Weiss Company of Hamburg, Germany.

Boyds, is a stock Manufacture in Mitchell South Dakota,,,they make a Various Stocks in different configurations for reasonable money'' no fancy grades available but if you need a decent drop in they are worth a look
Now Ive, spotted a used Interarms at Cabelas here in Minnesota''I know there made by Zasatva and built like a Model 98 Mauser,,Old School kind of like my 8MM M48

You realize this is really only the beginning, next up will be something starting with a 4. The .375 is not really overkill to me. Used mine for the first time in June with 250gr pills going 2850fps at the muzzle. Loved the thump it put on the Blue Wildebeest and Red Hartebeest.

I'm partial to the M70, mine has had no adjustments of any kind made to it. The stock is a bit fat in the hand. Overall a bit heavy, but this has it's advantages when you're new to the bigger bores.

If you have the extra bucks, the no longer made Ruger RSM sure is a pretty nice rifle and those that have them love them.

I sure am liking the RSM .338 Win I got a while back, shoots great! Been playing with the newer 9.3x62 Hawkeye African now as well. Its coming along nicely.
