I am about to order a D’Arcy Legend stock (McMillan makes it) for a Winchester 70 Stainless Classic in 375 H&H and I would like a molded in color. There are many choices available and I would appreciate recommendations on what looks great in combination with a black barrel and receiver and black scope because I am coating the rifle in Black T so it won’t have the shiny stainless color anymore.

My taste is towards a color combination that would not look tacticool. I already have one rifle with a McMillan in molded in GAP camo (M1A) and that is nice but I don’t think it would look good on a Winchester 70 used for hunting in Africa.

Great stock!

I must say I don't think you can beat how D'Arcy had #1 LX-1 stock painted:

I have yet to see the mcwoody/ mcwalnut in person (only digitally) but I am likely to go that route in the near future. The finished rifles I’ve seen with them look pretty sharp to me. Otherwise id probably do something like Baxterb posted above.

I like the green color in that picture. I think the closest molded in color from McMillan would be the Olive, Woodland Beige, and Dark tan color. There are still a lot of choices available.

While I tend towards OD green, I saw a mcwoody once and really liked it.

Can you now order the stocks directly from McMillan? I had D’Arcy set one up for me several years ago and I copied one of his paint patterns.

Here is a link to the one D’Arcy did for me. I did a lot of pondering over the paint and went with this . . .

Desert Ambush, or Tan with Black Speckles, seem to me appropiate for Africa.

FWIW I feel like the faux wood options try too hard to be something else.

Khaki with gray and black gets my vote.

I did not see a choice of Khaki with gray and black on the McMillan site. Could you point out which one you are referring to?

Here’s mine…I wanted as close to a wooden look as possible.

I’ve seen the McWoody (now called Timber?) in real life. It doesn’t look like wood, but it looks good. Kinda like the burl panels you see in F150 trim packages. It’s not fooling anyone but it still looks classy.

Otherwise go with an olive drab or khaki base and fleck pattern. African landscape and clothing colors.

I’d avoid the stripes. You lose the clean lines of a D’Arcy stock with all those vertical color bars.

But, as they say, “in matters of taste the customer is always right”.

D’Arcy does a lot of his stocks painted like this. I like it. I just wish he would get hats back in stock. :-). He has been out for years.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
