I run Trijicon RMRs on my doubles. At less than 3 ounces for RMR and mount, a mount similar to what I posted for you will survive the recoil of a Lott a heck of a lot longer that a pound and 3 ounce scope and rings recoiling against two contact points!

Also, the mount I posted has a recoil lug in the of its underside. It looks to be properly designed!

Further, I have shot my 10 1/4 lb Heym 458 Win over 500 times with a Trijicon SRO RMR. Like an old Timex, it takes a lickin and keeps on tickin!

Below are photos of a rib milled for a quick release RMR mount. In this configuration, the rear sight serves as the recoil lug for the RMR.

This is neat and good to know of as an option since you have put it through some hard use. The milled rib is what I had done on my double. It is not noticeable and is a big contrast to the mounting plates you see put on some doubles.
I did find out at DSC that the Kahles Helia red dot is no longer sold in the US due to some patent issue.

While I do want to mount a scope almost halfway down the barrel, the concept for an RMR on a double is rock solid!

Everyone,

Could use your help here as I am struggling to find info through searches.

I am looking to mount a red dot on my 458 Lott. It is a new realm for me as I have never utilized or shot a red dot before. Looking to mount a Leupold deltapoint on my ruger RSM but am struggling to find any mounting options for these.
I may just not be searching correctly so I would appreciate any guidance on what you guys and gals have done and any expeienfe you may have.

Once you know the interchangeability of one brand/model for the footprint, you should be able to find a compatible mount for your Ruger. You might give NECG a call. That's was the only place I could find the mount for the Leupold DeltaPoint that I put on my CZ550.

I did get in touch with them and they confirmed what we all suspected and assured me that it would work for what I want to do.
the only issue is they cannot ship outside or EU

Or, you could have the quarter rib milled for quick release mounts such as used on double rifles.

The closer to the rear of the receiver, the better. Placing the red dot further out narrows the field of view and slows acquisition of the target. I had the breech portion of the rib of the Merkel drilled and tapped. Leupold Delta Pro.

High rings… you could use QD rings if need be.

The smith can take the front scope ring and cut off the actual ring, leaving enough room to cut either a dovetail or rail in the now flat base.

He can then machine the custom Trijicon mount to the correct dovetail; or you can buy a quick detach mount and have him machine it as a rail.

I would prefer the dovetail method as it would have one less screw to work loose.

Before giving JJ Perodeau the go ahead to mill the rib on my barrels I conduced an operational test.
For this, I tried both positions, on the barrels just in front of the standing breach and adjacent and behind the rear sight, as JJ recommended. I did this by affixing my Trijicon SRO to each position using blue painters tape. Then I shouldered the gun, a Heym 88B, a hundred times for each position.

1. I found that as you indicated, there was a wider field of view with the RMR in the rear position.
2. I also found the sight housing obstructed that not in the field of view many times more for the rear position.
3. Most important, like Jeff Cooper found long ago for his ugly scout rifle concept, target acquisition was as fast or faster, and more precise with the RMR in the forward position. When I shoulder the rifle the red dot is on target nearly always with the forward mounted RMR.
4. I have since acquired a couple Merkel 140AE's. For them I had the ribs milled for the forward position. Likewise, the red dots are on target when I should the rifles.

The above works for me.

We may have to. I am kicking myself for not buying another Kahler red dot! There is nothing on the market that compares to it.

I have two, and my wife claimed both. One is on her 375 and the other on a Ruger 243 to work on proficiency with the red dot at a lesser recoil level than the 375. I was planning on getting another to put on my 500/416 double but So I went with a 1moa RMR for now.

I did. In fact it has just recently been tested and trialed. Not too many rounds though the rifle though but all seems good.

the mount is slightly higher than I’d like but it is not so high that it’s uncomfortable. The red dot is nice and easy to acquire and shoot.
I’m happy with it so far. We’re just about to start the hunting season so I will be carrying, bouncing and using the rifle a fair bit this year.
I’ll pull it out the safe a bit later on and take a few pics.

Trijicon offers a "rib" mount for the rmr. Machine grooves in the sides of the rib.

that’s the rmr mounted. It’s clear of any cases being loaded or ejected. Works just fine.
