This is the underside of the forend showing the release mechanism. It was custom made for the rifle because he couldn't make an existing market available release work with the existing attachment point.

This project has been in the works for 14 months now and bumping up against my October buffalo hunt, to say I'm a bit nervous about having it in time would be an understatement.

Last week the word from the Gunsmith was that all that need to be done now was some minor wood finish work and Case Color the parts I've identified. I just got this image of those parts so there is hope that I'll get the rifle in time.

I may be finally getting "The Beast back", at least I got word that the 'smith is reassembling it this weekend; more wait and see, the usual timeframe.

In anticipation I loaded up a ladder of 20, 500 Sharps so I won't be wasting any time once it arrives. 4 rungs starting at 80.6gr and ending at 83.6gr of H335 pushing 575gr Paragrine Bushmasters. It'll be interesting to see if the forend detaches.

Rats, dinged before I even got it. The stock maker said he was getting it ready for shipping and somehow got a dent in it. Bummer.

Picked it up today. It feels like a stalking rifle, quick and nimble, but it still tips the scale at 9lbs. The balance must be different. I like it a lot as you can tell by my shitty-ass grin.

Next stop, Tanzania.

Love the wood! What a beautiful rifle. I am hoping to make a custom Ruger #1 in 9.3x74R at some point with an English style stock. Have fun on your hunt!
