I'm a huge No. 1 fan! I currently have different calibers. Keep looking, the right one is out there for you!

Very informative, I have heard similar reports regarding accurizing these rifles. When tweaking for accuracy, have you ever encountered one of these rifles that was simply a "lemon"? Like one with a bad barrel, poorly bored chamber, or other such defect that made it inherently inaccurate?
I have 5 of them and all are hunting rifle accurate. Those with heavier barrels have never required any tinkering with for accuracy in my experience. I have a #1A 7x57 that did need a bit of help to do its best work but it was a simple fix. The #1A has the lightest barrel but that also makes it great handling rifle to hunt with.

Check out New England Custom Gun, No.1 in .458 Win Mag which may fit your donor rifle for the Lott.

Just get one in 450/400 NE 3"
They still kick like a mule. Ill shoot my CZ 505 over my Ruger 450/400 ANYDAY

I have a no.1 in 450/400.
It was muzzle heavy. I have replaced the recoil pad and installed a mercury recoil reducer in the stock.
Now it balances well and it's a pleasure to shoot. For local game I load 300gr bullets. It killed a cape buffalo with Hornady 400gr.

I have a No.1 in .405 Win on the way, its here actually in the state jail for another week! I had one once years ago and did a bit of playing with top end loads and 400 gr loads to try to match the performance of the .450-400 which was accomplished.
I plan to stick with standard loads this time around.

If the question is down to price you just have to keep looking. I recently got my first Model 1 in a 416RM and paid around $1500 for it. Great shape and shot it for the first time today. Great recoil (much more manageable than I expected) and an easy pointing rifle. I have another one on the way I found on Guns international in a 375 H & H and picked that one up for $1800. Nearly a flawless brand new looking rifle.
This last weekend I tried in an auction on two different Model 1s in 30-06 for my wife to use on our trip in May. Both went over 2K and I let them go. Found a pre-64 model 70 for her for $850.

Just keep looking and be selective. Also don't discount the shipping cost in the deal. My 416 came from Alaska to Florida. Cost me $300 in shipping charges. My 375 had shipping included which was just under $75.

Good luck

At Kalahari Safari, the Small Things Are the Big Things
The thrill of the stalk. The stillness of the wait. The age-old rhythm of the hunt.
It’s not just about the size of the trophy. It’s about the stories that will be told for years.
We believe the memories are the true prize. The small things are the big things.
And we’re proud to offer a hunting experience that honours exactly that.

Not sure your price range. Have a 375 H&H with a muzzle brake. Nice rifle only fired a few times. Also a Mossberg 375 Ruger its been used and shows a few hunts on it.
Two African Safaris Hunted South Africa both times,
9 game animals taken
