Here I sit in Jérôme Lanoue’s house in Normandy France planning out the build of Rigby’s first 450 No 2 double rifle. Jérôme Lanoue is Rigby’s premier big game gun maker.

Now my favorite big game hunting author, Ian Nyschens, said in his books and in video interviews with Buzz Charlton that his favorite gun was a 450 No 2 made by Rigby. That gun went to the bottom of the Zambezi River when Ian’s boat overturned.

Rigby says in 250 years of gun building they’ve never built a 450 No 2.

Who is right?

As Ian’s 450 No 2 is buried in the mud somewhere on the bottom of Lake Caribe we will likely never know.

To help clear up the confusion I decided to task Rigby with building me a 450 No 2 so never again will it be said they’ve never built a 450 No 2.

50 rounds of hand loaded 450 No 2 ammo are now in Rigby’s hands so they can regulate the new gun.

Jérôme has been measuring me for the rifle’s stock. (Measuring gun)

And we have selected the wood.

WOW!!!!! Congratulations, this is going to be epic!

Thanks, and she goes on an epic hunt in March.
And ready for a March hunt. This project has been in the works for a while. Can't wait to see the finished product,

Barrels are done, just need final fitting of the ammo, then proofed and regulated. While here I decided on the scroll work so that’s underway.

This is being built on Rigby’s Shikari platform so Box Lock.

What a great project! Looks as if it will be in your hands soon!

I had not heard of the overboard Rigby before. Ooooof. I think I would have had to have a shark cage (actually a croc/hippo cage) fabbed and searched (depending on logistics).

Man that is way cool….Ian is a great reason to do something special like this. He was a very unique person.
Happy you see it like I do

You can bet the thought has crossed my mind many times on how to set up an expedition to search for that gun. Hey, they found Queen Anne’s Revenge at right in the mouth of a harbor.

Very nice project. Like the wood you selected. Will be a nice double.

What are you hunting in March?

Talk about Epic!!!!! This will capture our entire form's interest!!! Just so awesome you are having this built and congratulations!!! Can't wait to see the finished work and then you are standing over your animal holding the rifle in its maiden voyage!!!

Hunting in Zimbabwe with Buzz Charlton again but this time in the Matetsi. Elephant, Lion and Buffalo. And our very good friend Richard Harland will be on the hunt as well. Couldn’t be happier and more excited.

Thank you!

This sounds like, getting this rifle built is but the first of many adventures this rifle will undertake! I’m looking forward to the finished result!

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
