Ok ladies and gentlemen, it is time to accord our fine hunting pieces the recognition and status they deserve. It is customary in our part of the world to name your rifle after it's first blood, so my heym 89b was called unusually Ngurungundu - wild pig. It doesn't need to be first blood, it is your call, but I am willing to bet the beast will shoot better if you call it right, 'Ugly Dog' will not end well. So send us a name and also a pic, so we can recognise you both.

CZ550 375H&H with AHR #2...The Beest. Although it was an absolute pleasure to shoot.

I default to “trusty rifle” when in the field. Doesn’t matter the rifle.

My rifles are tools, not children, so they are called by caliber and/or maker name.
Sorry, but no cutsie names.

@Kevin Peacocke , off topic but you are the one I need. Two or three months ago we were discussing The Rand Club in Joberg. What is the name of Zimbabwe's equivalent of The Rand Club?

I named my Churchill Gunmakers Model Deluxe 7x57mm Mauser “Kaniz” after my dear daughter. I can proudly say that it’s been downing game in six of the world’s seven continents, since 1989.

I have not christened any of my rifles or guns with any specific names, and I am usually not so sentimental, but I am a romantic at heart, so perhaps one of these days I'll have to name them too.

Of my recent purchases, the Vereecke, the Dumoulin and the Heym, only with the Dumoulin I have had a chance to hunt so far and be successful. Which was for a nice succulent wild boar. But naming that elegant Dumoulin something like "the pig" or "the boar" just does not ring quite right :p

update: just found this: The Norse fertility god Freyr had a wild boar called Gullinbursti, meaning ‘Golden mane’. Its bristles glowed in the dark, illuminating his path.

Nearly finished burning..so I always shoot something for meat for the scouts and staff who work their butts off when we burning...we were driving to an area and I saw this sable bull....checked him over and he is OK but not big...but very old....so I thought this is matching up...need meat and want to take a real nice animal as first one with this rifle...so off I went...scouts on both vehicles and manager wondered what I was up to....one shot...norma Oryx 156grn....smashed one shoulder and through heart and we found it in meat on other side after going through the ribs...nicely opened up and from feeling it...probably retained most of its weight...very impressed...so everyone happy all round...and thanks again Kevin :D Beers:

Looks pretty big to me, nice ring to the name.

I have names for all my bird dogs - Rock, Cap, Buddy, Cody. Sadly, it has not occurred to me to name my guns. I just refer to my rifles by caliber and my shot guns by maker... Daly, Fox, Harkom, Atkin, etc.
