Would you guys be so kind as to message me here on the board with the state of residence for Andrew62?

In NOV I discovered a scammer using my identity here on the AH board to sell a Swarovski to someone. In an effort to not send money to such a person, I messaged Andrew62 and he called me today. Our 20 minute talk seemed to indicate he was genuine.

Just being careful and trying to authenticate him via the other members here on the board. If you could coroborate details he gave during hunting, such as when he went to Namibia, etc., would also be useful.

Thanks in advance for your help keeping the trade on the board viable.

Assuming his ID hasn't been hacked - I have done several ammo transactions with him. He has hunted Camaroon 4 times and has a Kimber .375 that he loves to shoot A-frames out of. He isn't a handloader.

He has been a great seller to deal with.

Horned Frog - you gave me something that authenticated him - thanks for your help!

I reckon someone should also know the year/make of his first car and the elementary school he went to. I understand wanting to make sure a person is legit, but damn

IMO - nothing replaces personal interaction.....

Talk to him over the phone, if he is too far away to meet face to face.

Ask questions, talk about experiences, etc.

A phony will not, usually, be able to explain much about the JNB airport.

A hunter will.

I agree 100% it is my policy even as a seller that we always conclude the deal by a phone conversation. It solidifies a live person of Non-Nigerian decent...lol..

I dunno about that. I've been through Tambo 8 times for four safaris and I can't remember where the johns are located. What would you expect me to remember?

Safari Dave - that is what we did yesterday - a phone call - Horned Frog DM'ed me and the tidbits he shared matched some that Andrew shared.

Andrew is a good guy.... I don't agree with publicly asking for all that info such as the state he lives in. If a member wants to share that he'll share it himself or list it on his profile.

I'm glad no one publicly shared it. I've personally had well meaning members share things they thought they knew... damned busy bodies who should worry about themselves. Such details are for private conversations.

Yes, send PM’s. Sharing info publicly makes such verification less useful in the future. BTW, my bank card PIN is my IQ followed by my shoe size ‘1111’ lol.

Good luck with transaction - digital security is an ongoing and growing issue - especially with AI ‘scraping’ everything available so I appreciate your diligence.

A guy I know talked to a seller several times, face timed, achieved rapport, sent him money and never heard from him again. Anyone unknown is a crap shoot less it’s a FTF.

Some people are just scumbags.

Another method I use is reverse directory, it will always link a name to a mailing address and sometimes a phone #. Many of us here have OnX hunt app and you can do the same, ask for a mailing address and check it on Onx hunt to see if it matches.

It sucks but it's the world we live in...

Hey guys, thought I'd chime in and say I completely understand the OP's reason for questioning whether I am a real seller or a scammer. One great part of this wonderful site is that we have the ability to reach out to others to gain information, whether it be for buying something, or perhaps a reference on an outfitter.

What I do enjoy at times when I am selling something, is that I get to chat with some great people, hear their stories, where they've hunted, etc. In fact earlier this evening another member wrote me a direct message asking about an outfitter I previously hunted with, again, that's such a valuable part of this site.

I also want to report that as soon as @USMA84DAB felt comfortable with purchasing my scope, I received his full payment within minutes, an hour later I was at the shipping store and his scope was shipped. He seems like a great guy, I would definitely do business with him again!

Smart move being cautious after that identity theft scam you dealt with in November — AH classifieds have had scam issues before fake emails, spoofed sellers, so verifying folks is key to keeping trades safe.
From public posts on AfricaHunting.com, Andrew62 lists his location as Grosse Tête, Louisiana that's in Iberville Parish, south Louisiana. He's an active senior member joined around 2022, with posts mentioning hunts in Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa. He specifically referenced hunting the Omay in Zimbabwe 37 years ago in a recent thread, and he's chimed in on Namibia topics multiple times like outfitters, gear, etc, which lines up with someone who's been there.
No red flags popping up on him in scam threads he seems like a legit long time hunter from the South Louisiana fits the accent details vibe. If his call matched those details Namibia trips, Omay history, etc, it's probably solid.

I really like that knife you're selling. It looks so similar to my original 1306 that has been around a long time. I can't spend that much but if you get to a point where you'd entertain offers let me know. Thx, James
Been away for a while, glad to be back
