REPUBLIC OF CONGO: Bongo In The Congo Second Try

Really nice Pieters duiker that Christophe had seen 7-8 times. Saw one female duiker going in. Several groups of monkeys but they were gone quickly with no shot opportunity. We went to go across a bridge and heard a loud crack. Never good to hear. Not sure what part it is, but the general idea is that it helps hold the rear tire straight. It broke…. Christophe backed up few feet to look. Then out came a bottle jack. Then a saw to cut wood. They jacked it up I think 4 times. Bottle jack was too short. Jack and block it and then drop the jack and set it up on a piece of wood.
At one point I made a walk of perhaps 1 km with a tracker to look for a monkey. Saw one but no shot. Back to the truck. By then the Omani/ sweat bees arrived. What miserable little buggers. Eventually Christophe and trackers tied a piece of wood in to help brace/hold the tire in place.
We got a mile down the road and the repair failed. So back to work again. Quicker this time. The second vehicle in camp was off getting a load of diesel. 3 hrs each way plus load time.
That second repair seemed to hold. So back we came at 10-20 mom for 25 miles. Back to camp at 3:30. Hungry, hot and tired. We saw our duiker where he was supposed to be but had no shot opportunity. Maybe we’ll try calling him another day.
Tomorrow Christophe is working on a blind for the closer yellow back. He comes almost every day. I’ll go with a cpl of the trackers and we’ll call duikers. Should be fun.

Outstanding animal. Truly a perfect bull.

Beautiful !

Wow, first day bongo. Well done! I wouldn't pass him up. He's fantastic.

I really hope you get a shot at a yellow back duiker. That would just be amazing.

So the mission today was to go to the far side of our area. We wanted to look at a couple of salt licks along the road, do a camera check at another salt lick with a machine and hopefully kill a monkey for bait for the yellow back duiker. There also was the matter of a really nice
Why do you bait a Duiker with a monkey?

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
