Hello everyone,

I would appreciate reading your current recommendation for best quality double rifle take-down travel case. The case should be designed to survive commercial airline baggage handling, bush plane travel (which isn’t too terribly rough on cases), and bouncing around with cased rifle in the back of a lorry.

Thank you for your input.

I would never ever put a quality gun in a tuffpack. You'll have TSA pulling the barrels and action out and then stuffing them back in however they can make them fit with whatever you stuffed in the case to protect them. Begging for a damage disaster.

@AZDAVE has an excellent recommendation. Serial numbers easily read by inspectors and intuitively obvious how to put anything back. It also has the advantage of only needing a single lock.

Another is the Pelican V700. It and whatever you put in it will be very nearly indestructible. https://www.tequipment.net/Pelican/...PHm4PTCE88xAevJpHAgt2WTUbDsQTNhzb4FZMxuWXDG7U
I put screw rivets in two of the lock holes so I only have to use two locks.

Kalispel or Pelicase. There are some 'new old stock' Americases for sale here.

Avoid buying unbranded cases - they are often made in China and will not properly secure the rifle so that it will rattle around inside the case.

eBay is a good place to find second-hand gun cases.

NEVER THOUGHT TWICE ABOUT STICKING OUR DOUBLE RIFLES IN A MURRAY S-10 AND DROPPING THEM IN A TUFFPAK. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM

I’m planning to buy “new” and view this case decision as my first line of defense insurance policy against damage therefore cost of case is secondary to buying best quality.

Thank you for your input thus far. It’s been several years since I purchased a travel case thus I’m not current on top tier options.

Pelican 1700. There are aftermarket companies that will custom fit foam however you want it. I had mine done at GunFoam.com.

GunFoam.com is selling the Pelican 1700 with custom foam for $470. If you happen already own a 1700 (or find a good deal on a used one), you can have just the foam for $225. FYI - There are two generations of Pelican 1700. Gen 1 has a fixed center handle in the middle of the latches and only one handle opposite the wheels. Gen 2 has a folding center handle and two more handles on the ends. This is my (gen 2) 1700 with a Blaser R8, scope, sling and quad sticks.

@BeeMaa Nailed it! Pelican 1700 with custom GunFoam insert/s. If bringing two rifles, the 1720 isn't a bad option either as you have a little more room to play Tetris with fitting your rifles into the case.

When I picked up a pre-owned 88b from Heym USA, Chris Sells sent it to JJ for a strip and clean, shake down etc. and recommended a good take down case for shipping to Alaska and abroad. I drop shipped JJ a Pelican 1700 from Amazon. Easy peasy.

I haven’t figured out the arrangement yet for ordering gunfoam, but have traveled with just a single rifle in the case to Utah to shoot with a buddy, and then just sent the 470 in it to another member who put a 500 in it and sent on to JJ. So it’s been through some paces so far.

While I like Tetris as a kid, sorting out the layout and feeling confident in the amount of foam gave me fits trying to cut a closed cell sheet for my trip to Zim last month. Bailed at the last minute and went with one of my Pelican 1750 cases and used the closed cell to protect the double. I need to sort out the best layout and get a couple inserts made for both a 1700, 1720 and 1750, and just be done with it.

@Wildwillalaska - Send me a DM if you want some pointers on doing the GunFoam thing. Here is a pic of a double & traditional bolt action rifle and another with a R8 (with two barrels) & double in a Pelican 1700 both by @One Day...

Sir, I think I have been writing to you about the purchase of the HK 639 rifle under an email "Tt Jake." If this is you, then I am truly interested. I am just trying to verify identify. Tt Jake is asking for a cash transaction. No disrespect intended, Just trying to verify who I am talking to. Thank you. Respectfully. Dan

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
