Range shut down

The range I go to have been shut down because a bullet was found on the neighbouring property. Now, for some conspiracy theory speculation: I was told a while back that some properties have been recently bought and the new owners have not been happy with the range. And, between the baffles and the berms, you would have to be some special kind of stupid to put a bullet into the neighbouring property. So, I am not buying it! I stand to be proven wrong, but I am prepared to wager that this bullet doesn't have rifling marks on it......

In the meantime, I have a a new load I am working up for the fall!!

Don't you know a good lawyer that might have some interest in this case? The fact that a bullet was found on neighboring property doesn't mean it came from the range. Is the area thickly wooded, was the bullet found laying on top of the ground? This is not the first time false claims of this type were made.

The last complaint led to these ridiculous baffles being placed ahead of the benches. You have to scrunch down to shoot under them. Some of the benches are still too high, and a lead sled means your rifle is too high and is not useable. the Chief Firearms Officers is apparently investigating and I guess more requirements to come.

My guess it was a planted bullet by a disgruntled new home owner. Now, if it is of the .465 h and h caliber bullet, we ALL would know the bullet was planted, because no one anywhere has seen an actual .465 h and h cartridge or bullet with rifling marks on it! Tell this to the Chief Firearms Officer AND he/she can contact me for further evidentiary information and sworn testimony regarding the mythical.465.
I’m sorry this happened, but I faced a similar situation with the firearms range I’m a member of here in Colorado. It was finally resolved and the range stayed open.

About every year or two we have a similar situation here. Seems people buildt homes near the shooting range and then tried to get the range closed because of all the noise created by people shooting guns.

A year or two ago someone vandalized the range by shooting holes into the rifle rack cover and other damage.

It was reopened a week later.

Now since this range is operated by the National Forestry Service, on foresty land, it's a felony. As far as I know no one has been arrested or charged and the neighbors haven't been complaining as much.

Hope your range gets opened back up soon.

I would be interested in the investigation and to see the bullet. If I owned the range I would have my attorney on this ASAP.

This happens quite a bit at the local ranges here. The ranges are designed to contain bullets which are shot from the benches into the assigned targets. Instead people are shooting at rocks, setting up their own targets on the ground, and even shoot the concrete benches when no one is around.

The game wardens are constantly watching from their vehicles and even the woods. They warn people all the time to follow directions or the range will be permanently closed.

Unfortunately this happens all over the world, some people want ranges closed for different reasons, and they will just plant a few bullets.

This is like the people who buy homes near airports, then discover they hate the noise and want the airport to be moved. Dugh!

I was at my local range on Monday. The fellow who is responsible for taking off trash and picking up trash left by irresponsible shooter's.

He called the local forestry department, that employs him specifically for this position, fussing about the litter and mess of the range and asking it be shut down.

He arrived at the range in his car, be the conversation he doesn't have a truck....1ST WTF!!! The trash can was stuffed, and I mean it was compacted, that even the arm full of trash I had picked up from the target area if the 100 yard range wouldn't fit into the can and be able to close on the house he lids.

Trash was all around the can and I piled more trash next to the 25 yard target area.

WTH!!! He left. It was very obvious he hasn't been doing his job. Yet he wanted the range closed because he didn't want to do his job nor does he have the proper vehicle to perform his job.

I will be going back to this particular range again Monday, Sept 30th, to test reloads and check my scopes. If the range is closed I'll be paying a visit to the nearby forestry office to advise them of the lack of performance of their choice of employee.

Shooter's ar suppose to pay a $2.00 daily fee, but seldom if any do. Veterans such as my self and a few others and generally law enforcement personnel are exempt from paying this fee. However, at least 3 of us periodically police the range. One gentleman Yas a county resident sticker that allows him, and he does periodically, uses his truck to tansport trash to the near by trash facility.

As I am sure other ranges have their own brass scavengers, this range also has brass scavengers that pick up brass not previously picked up by reloaders or shooters.

Basically, this employee doesn't want to do his job, and because he is to lazy, ill equiped, and just basically wants a pay check for doing nothing, he wants others to suffer.

Can you believe the range is still closed! I leave for my fall hunt on Friday and have not built the loads I wanted. I was hoping to work up the cutting edge esp raptors. Fortunately, when I was first tinkering with the rifle, I did a basic load of Hornady sst 180gr. And I am sighted in for them. I only have a deer tag so those will be fine. But for Pete's sake!

Duh! I just looked at the target for the Raptors I did shoot - 1" high at 50 yards dead centre. Muzzle velocity 2966. Plugged into the the ballistic calculator and it's a 250 yard zero. 3" high at 100 yards. So that's comforting. These were supposed to be 3200 fps, but won't make a difference for deer where I shoot no more than 200 yards. I wanted to try these out and now I will Who needs a range anyways
