Yep, if memory serves USPSA is actually 23 feet (7.6 yd).
I used to use 10" paper plates, but it is hard to get instant feedback from them when doing the 15, 10, 5 yards, 5 seconds course.
And clay pigeon are pretty small at 4.3" which is not a bad thing once you are proficient, but pretty difficult to start with...
All I can say is that a 6" steel plate (or even a 12" steel plate) swings pretty horizontal when hit by a DG round.
But let's play it safe and advise people to run the drill with milk jugs, coffee cans, or good old balloons. Blowing them up will give your double's barrels time to cool down before blowing them up (pun fully intended)
