Guys
What’s a fair price for a CZ 550 in 404 Jeffery?
My buddy has one that is still with the original box (been fired a few times at the range I think)
He’s not selling, I’m just curious and I figured this crowd would know more than anyone else!
Thanks

How longs a piece of string?
Pictures would help a lot. If you have any that’s always a good place to start.

Just a standard CZ 550 Safari Magnum would probably be in the $4k range

Ok thanks. Again, he’s not selling, and I was just curious. Looked around and it seemed like the 404 was relatively rare in the CZ .

Looking up ballistics on the Jeff, seems a bit antiquated. 416 rem or 458 Lott or even the 375hh seem more useful to me. But what do I know, I’ve spent a grand total of 7 days hunting Africa and one buff to my name!

About the same ballistics as the 416 Rigby. It will take anything including elephant. They always say that the 416 Rigby got all the glory while the 404 Jeffery did all the work. I'm glad to see it's getting more popular in recent years.

I guess I was looking at the original ballistics of 400g at 2150 and 300 at 2600. (Since a 375 can push a 300g at 2550 and with a better BC, it seemed the 404 was antiquated.)

Didn’t know about the modern ballistics. Now it makes better sense. Kinda like a 458 but with less recoil.

Check gunsinternational or gunbroker then drop 20% off their prices…

If he decided to sell let me know, I’d be a buyer at or around the price.

I wouldn’t pay 6-7k for a factory cz, that seems crazy to me. Maybe one the has had the full ahr treatment. Those Czech guns just aren’t worth that much. You can still buy a used Dakota in 375 or 416 rem for 7k

Completely agree. If you want a CZ, buy a factory chambered .375 and have a competent smith do the work. I still have a CZ or two and an MRC in .375 that I bought for that purpose. Then I magically had .404s breed and multiply behind the closed doors of my safes.
