Portable Bench Rest

It's an interesting subject, and there appears to be a considerable tradeoff between stability and portability. The Caldwell Stable Table looks really nice, but it's also 60+ pounds, which is fine for some things but not for others. I bought a MTM high/low shooting table for testing high recoiling rifles from the standing position, and it's pretty good, but not perfect in terms of stability. That said, it's very flexible in terms of utility if fairly large (but light). I think for more useful answers it might be good to explain your most common uses for the shooting platform.

I built one based on an adjustable saw horse from Home depot. This was 10-15 years ago. I used 3/4" plywood (high grade, not construction grade) I made a wedge that went under the sawhorse and bolted to the top at each end with wing nuts. I takes a couple minutes to setup and cost me about $150 total. I'll try to take some pictures of it in the next couple days. It's definitely solid enough for shooting, and portable enough to drag around as needed.

I just take a Colman camp stove stand and place a carpeted piece of 2'x3' plywood or USB on top of it. Then use a folding chair to sit on.

It's quite sturdy and all the pieces except for the top have other uses.

If you are handy with tools and like making things take a look at what is available on the web or stores. Then make it yourself.

Even just a folding table and a couple sandbags work quite well.

I picked up a couple of hospital type bedside tables from a nursing home facility that was remodeling. They were the heavier duty type and they were also free. We used them for years on the range, or if needed, just threw one in the back of the truck to carry wherever. I got several years of use out of them until they finally just wore out.

Hench Bench……Tower Stools, Faith, SD Used one for 12 -15 years in the PD towns. Never saw anything better. Sorry no pics

I make by own loosely based on the Stuckey benches. They cost me less than 100.00 to make. I’ll try to post some pictures. It weights about 30 lbs but very stable.

A lot of folks go prone in the bed of a pickup. I built one out of 2 layers of 3/4 AC plywood and some pipe legs. Had it for years.

Cabela's Deluxe Shooting Bench

Goes up and comes down very fast and easy by pulling some retained pins. Folds close to flat and stores away nicely. Decent price. About 37lbs.

Forgot to add, I built a shooting bench from scrap rhs left over from a job , with a 32 mm thick piece of kitchen bench top, I put wheels on it from a pram that was also a job left over. Can wheel it around to wherever I need, not really suitable for carting to different sites, but here at my place it’s good. And I have one of those music seats that I use with it, though I have been known to drag an old swivel office/computer chair out to the bench

Need anything in trade?
Cheers,
