I don´t think that is the question.

We have free speech in Europe, at least in western Europe, however, if you insult someone, then that person has the right to take you to court .

As an example, I can say my President is an incompetent, (which he is), but if I
call him a son of a b****, he can take me to court, I will certainly not go to jail, but will be fined.

It´s a question of civility

A fine ? And let me guess who keeps the fine. Certainly not the wounded, insulted person

I’m guessing it’s a Sesselpupser Beamter as they say Europe.

I’m not sure marine engine cooling system designs translate well to cooling huge banks of electronics - the real and massive corrosion and brine waste water disposal issues are inescapable, in addition to the electrical power usage… but no matter… “mere details”… “nothing to see here”………... and so on.

If we’re bound and determined to head down this yellow brick road, I can visualize several perfect locations for data centers. Martha’s Vineyard, Southern California coast, Oregon coast, Long Island NY/Connecticut coast, etc. each center surrounded by sufficient wind turbine farms and battery banks for 24 hour, continuous service with net zero need to tap into local grid along with the unlimited access to sea water for cooling. Certainly doable, but for us “ Luddites”, please articulate, in detail, the tangible end products of such an endeavor. “To stay ahead of China” is an answer suitable for a 4 year old and is nothing more than a trendy, fast, easy (brainless) retort without substance. Waiting…………………………………………………

What I want to know is: If we don't have the electric capacity to fuel the data centers, where the hell are we going to get the electric capacity to charge everyone's electric cars?
Haha I’ve been saying this for years. Unfortunately the leftist answer is black, not green at all = ruin our ranches with seas of ugly, inefficient windmills and solar panels that displace hundreds of species of wildlife. These black developments cannot even pay for themselves without government taxpayer subsidies! It’s not green at all, except for the money.

If you think my posts are nonsense, then you must think Trump speaks and writes nonsense too since I'm typically just quoting him.

Kamala Harris wasn't my cup of tea but it's impossible for me to believe she could have made a bigger fool of herself or worse mess of everything than Trump has the last two years. I mean, not just the occasional faux pas. Every day, day after day. Now I see Trump's tariff on Canadian potash has gone out the window. He thought it made more sense to import potash from Putin's brutal puppet state Belarus half way around the world. How utterly stupid is that? Besides being morally corrupt it made no economic sense. But woe to any news network that points out the folly. He will kick them out of the White House which last time I looked was a public building.

You clowns think I'm a "liberal." I'm not. Typically in the past I'd vote as often for Democrat or Republican. But I have a thing about an autocratic abusive immoral VERY STUPID idiot running the best country in the world into the ground. And taking the rest of the planet down the drain in the process. What amazes me is how so many people in the US can continue to make excuses for him day after day after day. I guess that's because the alternative is admitting they screwed up putting a nut job in the White House ... again. Give yourself a shot of Lysol and say a prayer to Jesus Trump to save you when the poison sinks in. :D
No, the alternative was Marxist socialism and losing our country’s culture to illegal immigration’s invasion.

Oh boy! Where did Trump find someone with a law degree who would write up that motion? CNN access to White House is a breach of national security. I can hardly wait for the court's response at today's hearing. That ridiculous motion is sure to produce the exact opposite reaction! As will DOJ's contention that access by the press is a "privilege." 1st Amendment is not limited to the whims of a president of who is privileged and who is not. The White House is a public building and Trump is a public servant. The public has a reasonable right to access both via news media.

Liberals speak and deal in superficial platitudes. When ever asked about even a simple explanation of how it will work they move on and have no comprehension of how the economy or business actually works.

It’s simply pie in the sky childish dreams.

thats not free speech at all... thats consequences for speech.. and the courts get to determine what you are free to say or not..

thats not a question of civility.. thats a question of control..

Sorry, my "legalese" is not very good

It is not actually a fine, it´s a compensation that the insulted person keeps.

As far as I know, there is no total free speech anywhere in the world,

There are always limits, which every society exercises in its own way.

Litigated damages vs fine for criminal offense. The defamed receives compensation vs being punished for breaking the law. The offender pays either way.

That’s the issue. I would not call it freedom of speech if you can be fined for insulting a president. That’s using the courts and one’s office to punish one’s detractors. Shouldn’t one expect that the people who control their police and military, thus holding the power of life and death, to have a thicker skin?

And what business does the government have enforcing civility?

hmmmm,

then, not freedom of speech. freedom of some carefully crafted speech.

If you don´t see the difference between criticism and gross insults, or just don´t care, I give up :E Shrug:

so here is another thing i have been pondering,

a year ago (or so) trump was talking about taking over greenland. of course he was doing his usual "art of the deal" thing, people on the left in particular and even some in this forum kinda lost their minds a bit.

now here we are, down the road from that proclamation and now denmark, greenland and the US are going to be signing an agreement regarding greenland that is beneficial to all parties involved. by simply sitting back and giving it a bit of time, viola, trump has his deal, it benefits the USA and the other parties are not only on board but in agreement.

so, my takeaway is, rather than lose your mind over what "trump said" (and yes, he says some outlandish stuff) why not take a breath, give it a little time and wait for the other shoe to drop without the high blood pressure, angst and frustration. there are some that would argue if trump said the sky was blue, but why?

anyway, just some thoughts regarding a "crisis" that never really occurred and ended up becoming a win for the US and also a political nothing burger for the rest of the world. oh except for russia and china, this deal keeps them out of greenland so yeah, basically a win for the world too.

the data centers are something i am not entirely knowledgeable about as well.

i have heard however, a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth lately regarding the placement of data centers. my question to the not in my back yard folks is.....why not? you gonna give up your cell phone, and the apps that every one uses for finance, maps, uber, etc? where do they think the storage space for 10,000 selfies comes from? and of course everyone wants to use AI, grock, chat gpt, etc. where do they think the storage and memory for all this electronic data comes from?

so i hope the people that actually bitch about the data storage centers will at least put their money where their mouth is and quit using their phones, computers, tablets, cars (with onboard computers) netflix, disney+ etc. but, that is about as likely as me voting democrat. :sneaky:
Perhaps they're the same folks on this very forum that were very upset by the new wind turbines and solar farms sited right next to their homes.

There's a difference between artfully putting someone down with clever and thoughtful articulation vs someone who isn't smart enough to use language above a fourth grade educated pimp to make the same point.
So I suppose that means that everyone on here calling me a troll are either too stupid or too lazy to come up with a better insult then. Perhaps both.

so here is another thing i have been pondering
Perhaps you should also ponder if the new deal is substantially different from the existing one in force. Which it's not.
so, my takeaway is
Another takeaway is that trump is an excellent politician. One who manufacturer's a problem, and then "solves" it (with the new agreement) with a solution that already existed (the existing agreement).
anyway, just some thoughts regarding a "crisis" that never really occurred
Correct, a crisis that wasn't real but one that Trump got to "solve". Question, if a crisis doesn't really exist, can Trump claim credit for solving it?
and ended up becoming a win for the US
What did we win?

^ we see this over and over again, and yet people still want to freak out over every thing he says, outlandish or not.

That is not an Echols rifle but a clone as it has the Echols stock and all the bells and whistles. Lon Paul who built the rifle does great work.
