Politics

While I hesitate to involve myself in you and Brent’s back and forth, I do feel it’s a little inaccurate to call what Brent is saying “punching down.” Paul Pelosi is wealthier than anyone on this forum and is married to one of the most powerful politicians in the United States in addition to being related to some of the most powerful politicians in California.

He’s hardly a disadvantaged old man.
I was unclear. I was suggesting me debating with Brent is punching down.

How do you feel about his theory that the guy was the hammer was Pelosi's ex lover?

YA know I hate communism thats with a caps H, but I am sorry the common Russian people have to put up with Stalin's little dog. I have some Russian friends I dont see very often but they are really nice people.one of them told me he had met putin once., and they of course dont like him. They live in America. Seems we had a Russian hunter on here a while back .
Too bad 1 of his enter circle doesn't let the blood out of him and be that hero. Until then the world waits on Ukraine.
This is very true. I find most people in most countries just want a roof over their head, bread on the table and a better life for their kids.

I have lots of Russian and Iranian (for example) friends and they are wonderful people/co-workers/neighbours.

It is a real pity that Putin seems more robust than most.

Dude's an 86 year old guy with a bad brain injury who hit an empty parked car.
Then he shouldn't be driving if he's not capable. Period. Full stop. No further explanation or argument needed.
If he is going to drive, he should face the consequences, whatever those are for everyone else, not just rich elite standards.

Funny, my research says that almost nobody goes to jail for hit and run offences on empty parked cars. The truth is almost nobody goes to jail in California for a hit on run on an empty parked car.

Oh, and I don't know how much you interact with the criminal justice system but age and disability are certainly relevant considerations on sentencing. Whether you like it or not.

And I have to check. Are you buying the theory that the guy with the hammer was Pelosi's lover or just standing by silently while the victim slander is spewed?

I was a cop in a major metropolitan area in the US for a decade.. and I run a firm that has a business unit that specializes in rule of law and international law enforcement and currently employ numerous career cops, criminal prosecutors, and criminal defenders, to include two former justices... Ive been directly and/or indirectly been involved in US and international law enforcement and criminal justice functions for more than 30 years..

Im a contributing author on two text books that are currently in circulation and have been in use in both universities criminal justice programs and police acadamies for more than 15 years.. and Ive been published in law enforcement and security trade journals and magazines numerous times..

its a pretty safe bet that I know a thing or two about the criminal justice system in the US..

Regarding Pelosis lover.. I could sincerely care less... what a man does at 2 am in his house and who he does it with his is business.. not mine.. I see no connection to getting smacked with a hammer by a dude in his underwear and a hit and run with a vehicle a few years later other than things like that typically happen to less than honest or less than decent people.. and things like that typically dont happen to people that are decent...

Im not getting involved in this pissing match but this is my thoughts. He has the means to have a driver, so not really a ton of excuses. Hopefully he learns from this before someone gets seriously hurt.

Save us the bleeding heart victimization spew. It doesn't matter if a car is parked, or occupied. Fleeing, and not facing responsibility is the act of a coward. it is also a crime, even if only a misdemeanor, unless a person is injured, and it becomes a felony in my state.
In 2022, I was personally involved in 2 hit and runs. The first of which, the dirt bag left his vehicle on the street and fled. He was later arrested, and I was subpoenaed as a witness of the state. The dirt bag in question failed to appear. Another warrant was issued......and on....and on.....because of a soft on crime leftist D.A.
The 2nd hit and run I personally chased down and caught them as they tried to hide at their residence not far away . At the end of that chase my gun was drawn.....and I'll leave it at that.
There needs to be harsher penalties for hit and run drivers, regardless of who, or what.

As far as hammer boy is concerned.......

I was lucky when my Mom was 81 or so that she decided on her own that she didn't feel comfortable driving anymore. Trying to take the keys away from an elderly person can be quite the battle.

Glad to hear you are chasing down people with your gun drawn. The world is a better and safer place for it Rambo.

And people who are convicted of striking a parked car and only doing property damage are almost never jailed. Reality bites eh?

Than you know that people who committ hit and runs on empty parked cars are almost never sentenced to time. I wonder why you chose to ignore that?

And you also know that age and disability are sentencing factors across the United States. I wonder why you chose to ignore that?

Does your political animus cause you to abandon or ignore the facts so easily?

You are right.

But poor people don't go to jail for that kind of hit and run either. Virtually nobody does.

However, I think there is a good argument that whoever his physician is/was should have pulled his license.

Elderly people with brain injuries are notoriously poor at assessing their own driving skills.

What bites, is people like you defending scumbags that deserve punishment.
Not that anyone down here really cares about the opinion of someone like you living north of the border. Boring blathering banter.
Even though you claim to be a member of the Canadian conservative party, you are certainly no conservative......far from it.
Those of us that live in a city run by an ultra liberal ICE hating Hispanic mayor, cops not doing their job, and a county attorney who is ultra soft on crime and nothing but a waste of oxygen,....we are forced to go Rambo......it works for me.
When laws are not enforced, we become a lawless nation. I'll protect my own

Mr. Pelosi should at the least be evaluated as to wether he is able to continue to drive again before he hurts someone.regardlesd of his politics.

Age has no factor with certain Judges, Einstein.
Just ask Tina Peters, and someone else I know of.

who said I thought he should go to jail? you claim you are an attorney. Funny how you like to create falsehoods rather than rely on facts. What I said is he should be held to the exact same standard that everyone else is. What was also said is that people do in fact go to jail for hit and runs in the US. A link was provided that validates that.

Your red hering about age and disabilities factors is exactly that.. more nonsense.. since what was actually said is he should be held accountable to the same standard that others are held to..

My political animus has nothing to do with this.. again, another poor attempt by someone trying to fly falsehoods rather than rely on facts.. the facts remain the same... Pelosi hit a vehicle and left the scene.. that is a crime in the US... Pelosi had some dude in his house that hit him with a hammer.. you attempted to tie the two together claiming his head injury might be a factor.. the fact is I have been clear, I could care less who he hangs around with at 2AM, could care less that he is old, could care less that he might have a head injury (which would keep a responsible man from behind the wheel if it is indeed true).. I have simply said he should be held accountable.. .

What you appear to not like is you attempted to call me out for a lack of knowledge of the US criminal justice system.. and found out you look like an idiot in doing so.. since I in fact get paid to run business that advises and mentors law enforcement agencies, spent measurable time in law enforcement myself, and get paid to author texts to train law enforcement..

I have to give it to you though.. some days you make a little sense.. other days you give Ontario Hunter a run for his money trying to win the jackass of the day award on AH.. .

He’s all the rage in Paris……..

Seriously though, some people never have an unspoken thought.

U.S launches more strikes on Iran......Wall Street panics.....oil going back up.

Hardliners in Iran, especially the IRGC, think they have the advantage and do not want any peace deal that gives up control of the Hormuz or the nukes. They will keep on taking potshots.

I expect another pause in hostilities by Friday. I expect Iran to be hitting the Arab Gulf countries in the meantime.

At the risk of sounding callous, I don’t particularly care. I don’t think there’s evidence that they were lovers but I live in California and hold the Pelosi family in particular disdain. Assuming that the attacker was simply a nutcase, I can’t lose much sleep when elite members of the Californian ruling class get a taste of the mental health crisis they have ignored and that regular California residents deal with daily. I can still condemn wonton violence without tears.

I’m sure that his vast fortune and connections bought him the very best medical care and that security at their walled mansion has quadrupled. If only regular Californians could do the same.

I'm gonna plead total ignorance on this topic, but have any of you seen the brewing online fury about Section 219 of the proposed Defense Appropriations Bill for 2027, which calls for an "integration" of Israeli and US military efforts on multiple fronts? I'd love to hear the input on this topic from much more qualified forum members than myself.

Here is a snippet from Tucker Carlson show that details what I'm asking about, and I'll preemptively state that I am considering the liberal former congressional source who is the guest in this clip and taking it with a grain of salt (hence my post here):
