"Big Easy what are your feelings on LBJ setting up policy to systematically destroy families?"...This sounds like more right-wing conspiracy theories, but if you have some specific examples I'd be happy to discuss.Big Easy what are your feelings on LBJ setting up policy to systematically destroy families? The church historically was responsible for helping children and widows from the early 20th century back. And ironically the robber baron era I believe had the most philanthropy. All of this in a time when goverment wasn’t involved.. What were the orphan rates before abortion was made legal? Those numbers would be interesting to know.. though probably tainted from all the men who died in this country over three major wars.
Many people at my church have adopted children and my wife has helped many at a place that offers free medical checks for expecting women who were thinking of abortion with the caveat that you see a councilor and discuss not getting one… those women never end up aborting. I forget the stat but I do remember it’s incredibly high the amount of women who consider an abortion and then choose not to once they see a sonogram.
Deport illegals weighing down your political system" is EXACTLY what Denmark is doing now. They decided LOGICALLY that they could have open immigration OR the multifaceted welfare state, BUT NOT BOTH. They chose to have their culture, their entitlements funded by eliminating leeches and to dismantle parallel societies and tear down slums to GET THEIR CULTURE BACK! Now EU countries are taking notice. A system of laws and a chosen culture are not a suicide pact. You do not have to allow your own destruction, like what happened to Christian Lebanon. You can choose to get rid of burkas because your culture wants to meet friends, face to face. Kudos! Bully, I say.Just spitballing so ideas of the top of my head in no particular order and remember I’m Canadian so this out side looking in but here goes:
Remove all subsidies on “green” initiatives you can pay for all of your own Tesla and required infrastructure.
Remove all government assistance in wind farm/solar farms that would never be cost effective without subsidies.
Deny funding to any and all groups that play gender politics and instead go back to teaching there are only two genders in schools. Teach contraceptive use in schools yearly and instead of having tampons/pads available in washrooms designated for men try having free condoms there.
Deport the illegals that are weighing down your political systems and strongly in force your boarders. Seize the property of deported illegals as the proceeds of crime and use that to help fund orphanages.
Institute foreign legion units in the military were in Lou of payment potential immigrants can be housed and fed for a set period of time and deployed as needed. They would obviously need to be integrated into existing united for supervision and training but they could be used to lower the costs of troops while also giving them the chance to earn citizenship through military service. Over the set period of time they would also become indoctrinated to the American way of life.
I’m sure I could come up with more but those will get you started.
This is very good with one exception, they said it was colonists being held. This was written in 1814 during the war of 1812. Maybe the British still thought of us as colonist ?Star Spangled Banner

1."Big Easy what are your feelings on LBJ setting up policy to systematically destroy families?"...This sounds like more right-wing conspiracy theories, but if you have some specific examples I'd be happy to discuss.
"The church historically was responsible for helping children and widows from the early 20th century back"...I mean yes they did help, but there is also plenty of examples of abuse, slavery, and death at the hands of both church-run and gov-run schools for children, especially for the natives.
"...ironically the robber baron era I believe had the most philanthropy." I would say quite the opposite. If you have any evidence of that I'd love to see it. They only initiated their philanthropic efforts to help rehabilitate their image, and also to prevent the unwashed masses from kicking down their front doors to their mansions and being beaten to death by said angry mob.
"What were the orphan rates before abortion was made legal? Those numbers would be interesting to know" .I believe I covered this in a previous reply to another user, and cited a few sources. The cliff notes version is quite high, much higher than today. Thousand+ orphanages with 100K-200K children at any given time.
"It seems to me that as government has taken the “burden” on its only gotten worse."...Quite the opposite, orphan rates much lower today than 100+ years ago. Quite a bit less misery, death, and forced labor. Similar to food stamps. Go look at the history and the reason they exist. After the first depression era program, it was re-established in the 60s. Excluding local gov help, churches' food pantry's were one of the main sources for hungry folks to go. They conducted studies that showed the church simply wasn't able to feed everyone that showed up. The need was far greater than their resources. That's why a regional food stamp pilot program eventually turned into a national one. It also has the dual use purpose of propping up farmer's income, which is why the Republicans never actually vote to get rid of it.
Reply to 1). He's associating the demise of the family (and the black family in particular) with the rise in the welfare state. But whenever I hear someone say where are all the black fathers at? I always remind them...in prison, they're in prison, where you put them. For non-violent drug offenses. What you posted was his opinion, but I'd like to see some actual research that can determine the effect the war on poverty had, versus the effect a failed war on drugs has had on the black family. It's interesting that you choose Sowell, as I've seen many on here do before, as well as some choosing Friedman, although I detest the later. The war on poverty and the war on drugs ramped-up at almost the same exact same time. Both Sowell and Friedman were very much for the decriminalization and legalization of drugs. I've always found it curious that so many on the right trumpet only their policies that they agree with, while completely ignoring the ones they don't. One of my all-time favorites is below:1.
The destruction of all American families has skyrocketed since the implementation of the welfare state. Incentivizing a woman to not have a man in the house to collect money by checking homes to make sure she lived alone was an interesting tactic.
2.
The Native American church drama that I saw in Taylor Sheridan show 1923 was BS. I’m sure there were some cases but most people site that garbage based on his show which I’m sure he wrote based on the natives in Canada the year prior saying they found all these dead native kids buried on a old church native school… Trudeau made the Catholic Church apologize and never once investigated… now that they have they have found zero bodies that the natives ironically said they had hundreds of. Even if they did find them there would be no proof that they didn’t die from natural diseases of the times(once again I’m sure some people were mistreated and abused but not like they say).
The government in is a different thing that is well documented even in the last 100 years.

No human remains found 2 years after claims of ‘mass graves’ in Canada
After 2021 claims of mass graves of indigenous children at residential schools across Canada, leading to widespread protests, excavations have turned up no human remains.nypost.com
The robber baron era.. Rockefeller foundation, an incredible amount of church and orphanage, schools and hospitals just from him alone.. he gave away over half a billion in his day.
Carnegie created over 2500 libraries, endowment for international peace, Russell sage foundation from Margret sage. There’s a lot man from back then. Then look into how much organized crime gave to there local communities aswell.. sure most of all the giving was probably for image but it actually helped people. Now look at the stuff bezos wife, gates wife or gates himself have given to as a comparison and it’s for the determent of society or many foundations created today just pay themselves.
4.
I saw the abortion rates that was interesting.
5.
I’m sure the higher orphanage rates from 100years ago had a lot to do with the Great War, Spanish flu, and depression.
Some of FDR policy was correct at the time and useful.. keeping it around after is highly debatable. As for lack of food during the depression the truth is if you read books and accounts about the depression is there was plenty of food in America and not enough money. On one side of the country you had crops going bad In fields because they could not sell them because people didn’t have money to buy them. On the other side you had people starving to death. We had medicine abound in this nation but no money to buy it. It is also argued that if fdr hadn’t stepped in the depression would have only lasted 12-18 months not years.
Only two presidents have reduced welfare and food stamps.. both of them were told people would starve.. they didn’t and unemployment went down. They were Reagan and Clinton. Clinton did it after reviewing a European nations that had slowly removed programs to remove dependency.

"...In a 1994 interview, Mr. Ehrlichman said, “You want to know what this was really all about?” He went on:
“The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left, and negroes. You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or Black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and Blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”..."
Reply to 2). I'm sure that his show was overly dramatic, I mean it is Hollywood after all. But 2 points still remain. A) That the schools were harsh, and many times children were taken from a least one surviving parent or family member and placed in the schools. Many of the schools and "charities" were fronts to get unpaid labor out of children. Many families adopted out of love, many did not. I do not wish for policies to send us back to such times, simply because of distrust in the government. B) They have found numerous bodies at these sites since at least 1974. They haven't found any in the past few years, as only a few schools have been searched though. But plenty of evidence with cadaver dogs and ground penetrating radar exist. It's easy to say no bodies exist when no one is actively looking. And no, we don't know how they died, it could be from a variety of issues. But there are plenty of interviews and recorded stories of individuals who attended such schools, and attested to said brutal conditions.

The Heartbreaking Tale of Orphan Trains
There are few tragedies more heartbreaking than being an orphan. But, in the 1800s in the United States, that tragedy brought with it unimaginable dimensions of loss, abuse, and violence. Orphanages were established to save children from the streets. But they often became places of horror. And...www.notesfromthefrontier.com
Reply to 3). Both things can be true. Robber barons were shit human beings who later in life tried to atone for their sins and the brutal working conditions that they forced the unwashed masses into. In an attempt to improve their images and leave a better legacy for their family names.
Reply to 5). It actually mostly occurred prior to the Spanish Flu, WWI, and the Depression. In fact the orphan trains stopped in 1929 with the onset of the depression. The system started falling apart around 1908-1909 when President Rosevelt held the White House Conference on the Care of Dependent Children.
"if fdr hadn’t stepped in the depression would have only lasted 12-18 months not years."....A) I'm sorry but this seems to be another conspiracy theory on the right to try and tarnish FDRs image. The Depression started with the economic crash in the Fall of 29. FDR wasn't even elected until the Fall of 32, and started in the beginning of 33. The depression was already 3.5 years by that time. B) Even if A were true, many on the right seem to forget just how bad the depression was. You literally had bodies lying in the streets. The unemployment rate was 25+%. That wasn't going to just clear itself up in a few more months.
Time to bomb what counts and thin the herd. The water treatment, the power generation and dams, the food delivery, and the army regulars. That's what they will understand. They may have to be crushed to be defeated. And they need to be defeated for any lasting peaceBack to Iran.....I would say not a great outlook...

How Iran's new regime is very different to what came before

Your continued inability to engage in a basic discussion, much less a thoughtful debate merely confirms your diminished intellectual capacity. Now stop embarrassing yourself, the adults are having a conversation with one another about important societal matters.Hey BigEasy, FDR has been credited with creating the welfare state mentality in the US. You are obviously a product of it. You probably are all on the LBJ’s Great Society and Hussein O’s Affordable Health Care system. And The Green New Deal and The Inflation Reduction Act. Victimology is a heckuva culture base to strive for and live in. Enjoy!
