There are only 4 grades if diesel fuel

#1 which works best in cold climates.

#2 for most if not all vehicles. Light and heavy trucks and farm machinery.

#4 for heavy industrial use or low speed engines.

And then biodiesel.

I'm not counting bunker fuel that large ships use.

Cetane levels can fluctuate depending on the fuel mix. This is why mileage goes down during the winter when more #1 is mixed with #2 to prevent gelling.

A huge problem in a marine environment is the storage of the fuel. Is it in a old rusty steel tank or a new modern fiberglass tank, then there are the lines from the tanks to the pumps. It's the same problem with farm tanks that sit up on a stand. They are usually older and made out of steel. Very few of these tanks incorporate a water separator before or after the pump, and the pickup in the tanks is down on the bottom of the tanks where all the crud and water sits.

But in the end all of the diesel that is shipped out of the refineries for vehicle use is exactly the same except for the dye for off road .
Whatever happened to the “push” for biodiesel which has the highest lubricity diesel without adding an additive to petroleum diesel? In this country, a fortune is being spent growing corn for adding 10 percent or more of ethanol to gasoline but almost nothing for biodiesel. On my trips pulling my fifth wheel across the country, I’ve only seen and bought biodiesel in Texas and Californicate. What’s up?

We have a couple of gas stations and our farmers co-op that has off road diesel.
Our farm has off road (tractors) and on road ( 18 wheelers)delivered in bulk along with DEFF for both and unleaded for our pickups.
DEF for off road tractors? Wow!

Is this just to "neat" of a package ?

Interesting read. Biggest winner in that scenario would definitely be Russia. Iran and the Ukraine would be the biggest losers, the former obviously a good thing but the latter bad. The Russians would be able to keep up hardball negotiations and be in a much stronger position. Look out Eastern Europe.. Ukraine would be fed to the wolves. Iran defeated. China reeling (theoretically according to the authors theory). Trump will have made some gains but ultimately his handling of the Ukraine will be looked upon quite negatively. To put it mildly. The US will lose face because of it, more than we have already. If that scenario were to occur. But what do I know

I found biodiesel in either Delaware or New Jersey around 2005 or so when I was up there hunting brant, I liked it it ran really smooth in my truck.

I guess the Russian sanctions could be reinstated after Iran is taken care of but you would have prolonged the war in Ukraine by invigorating the Russians.

Early biodiesel suffered from a lack of lubricity and highly variable fuel performance. It’s probably been 20+ years since I looked at it so much may have changed.

When I saw they chose Khameini's son to succeed him, and Israel say that for every new Supreme Leader they choose, he'll be the next target, it made me think of this gem from Gary Larson...

A question for the professional oil folks:

I just heard Burgum say on Fox that our partnership with Venzuela is going to allow gas prices to drop.

I have not gotten the impression on this thread that Venzuelan oil will have that kind of impact on U.S. markets. Am I remembering correctly? Is he maybe fibbing just a bit?

He’s a politician, that makes him a professional fibber.
But I hope it does bring down the prices.

Trump seemed to imply tonight that the war could wind down fairly soon. That remains to be seen as well.

Says he would get a majority if a general election was called now...

The conservative that crossed the floor was for my riding and used to be an acquaintance of mine. He would never get re-elected here the outrage is unpalatable for many of us and I don’t know if he could even legally run again as he’s sold his home and moved his family out of the riding due to community backlash.
