Politics

Many years ago when Gary Gilmore was to be executed in Utah with it being the first execution in years after the US reinstated it there were lawsuits about using tax payer funds to purchase the bullets and firearms to carry it out.

In his case there were quite a few citizens stepping up volunteering their ammo, rifles, and time to proceed with the execution.

I believe that in most death penalty cases there are those who would step up to do the same.
Ok, but do tax payers currently pay for executions? You’re still giving me examples of using “public” resources. If anything, the argument should be that the condemned persons estate should pay for his own execution.

Who pays for executions?
In Canada? Nobody, since it ended in 1998. Now, instead of killing convicted criminals, you just pay to kill old and sick people. Bravo.

But to address your greater point, I’d happily end the death penalty in the US if it meant that the abortion industry never received another penny of my tax dollars.

Yup, and the moment I can’t wipe my own ass I’ll be glad to take the needle.

What if you end up depressed or homeless...... Still want that needle with curable conditions?
Honestly, some days, never ending silence doesn’t seem so bad. And yes, if a homeless person decides they don’t want to live anymore, who am I to say they have to. Nobody is forcing MAID on anyone, it’s one of many options, if you don’t like it, don’t get it, but don’t try and prevent someone who wants it from getting it.

It’s about respecting those individual freedoms you folks south of the border keep bragging about.

You don't need to wipe your ass anymore. I have them at every house I own and my office.

You are forgetting this is Canada with universal healthcare. It is cheaper for the government to kill him than to care for him. I am pretty sure the cost of ongoing care had a lot to do with MAID law from the politicians' point of view.
One could make the argument that it is cheaper to kill those with life sentences than for society to pay to care for them, in that sense.

Well, there are exceptions to freedoms when they conflict with religion.

A very good idea. Those with life sentences have nothing to lose and that makes them very dangerous for guards and other inmates. They need their own wing at a minimum.

But they are personal choices, nothing is being forced on anyone, so no one’s convictions have to be compromised.

And it’s not mandatory that doctors in Canada provide the service

There's also the simple non religious argument of not encouraging even more people to seek a long term solution to a short term problem.

I look at the possibility that assisted suicide will be the next social contagion just like "transgenderism". There's a non stop supply of self deprecation, self pity, people with any sort of so called mental health disorder these days. Link those to the lefts desire to tear down any sort of community or family institution and the possibilities for depression and the sense of nothing left to live for are endless. I won't be convinced that this won't be used with malevolent intent. Maybe it already is.

If that was the case, people would not be up in arms in regard to abortion.

You’re not wrong. You gotta remember, there are people who legitimately don’t believe dinosaurs existed out there…..

You laugh, but my aunt was a teacher, and one year she was part of the board that was creating the provincial standardized tests. They weren’t allowed to reference dinosaurs because it would offend and go against the beliefs of others. Literally catering to those who should have inbreeded themselves out of existence.

There was dinosaurs???
Maybe they fell off the edge of the flat earth… :E Dancing:

That is the epitome of what’s wrong with liberalism in my opinion… so worried about offending even the most fringe minority that it is expected that you not speak truth or facts and just avoid the subject all together….

Is the Andrew, formally known as Prince going to squeal like a pig to save his bacon and blow this whole thing wide open, or will there be a “camera glitch” and he’s found dead?
