We have had interesting discussions about "lawful orders" and the like. Hopefully there is nothing to this story considering the source, but I can honestly say that this is one I would not follow without a Congressional directive, and even then, I trust I would say enough, and pull the plug. We have treaty obligations under the North Atlantic Treaty Organization which do not include freedom to attack a member state. To legally invade Greenland, and thus attack Denmark, we would have to withdraw from NATO. As evidenced by Congress including language (Section 1250A) in the NDAA to block presidential withdrawal from NATO without Senate advice and consent (two-thirds vote) or an Act of Congress, that will not be forth coming. Perhaps Trump is merely playing games, but if so he is behaving more like an adolescent character in "Lord of the Flies" than a serious president.

I read this here today. Maybe DT will flex muscles but if his bluff are called out its gonna be interesting. Will EU sell their US debt holdings to China(let US go bankrupt) and remaining Nato countries kick the americans out?. Yes the US can do what they want so far with no accountabillity. But can the US in the long run survive as many traderoutes will bypass the US from there on?. When Trump wanted to withdraw or retract US from everything and leave the outside world alone he apparently did the very opposit. He start wars as the best dealmaker ever lived.
In regards to Greenland. The US have had some +15 bases up there and only one remain because of soo much presence of China & Russia up there...:LOL. They say Trump has financed his own money into the companies that will escavate minerals. Then it makes sence why he is soo interested in Greenland and so long he is the "Lord of the flies" he can use the US military to conquer his own financial interests. Lets see. 2026 is gonna be "interesting".

I just clicked on it and saw it. Maybe you need to have a Reddit account.

The link works for me. It might be that @Tundra Tiger is in Alaska and they are already maxed out on ICE

Isn't The Daily Mail a British tabloid targeting middle age white women, AKA European Karen's?

I saw something this morning on FOX that Trump wants to pay Greenlanders $100,000 each to go along with his plans. Probably not a bad deal considering the population is quite low.

And wasn't the US basically given Greenland near the onset of WW2 by the Danish Ambassador to the US after the Nazis took over Denmark?

What happened to that deal?

One would hope either the Chairman or the entire Joint Chiefs would resign if Trump moves on Greenland.

Agreed, of all the ridiculous things he has said, this may very well take the cake.

Trump making lots of friends in the credit card industry......

This would blow up in his face and tank the economy due to unintended consequences.

Credit card balances are near all-time highs and consumer spending is off the charts as evidenced by record-setting holiday 2025 spending.

When the CC industry is told to lower their interest rates from the 20-30% rate down to the 10%, they will simply cherry pick the 850 credit score segment and deny access to credit for the greater risk customers.

That would in turn, create a crisis overnight in multiple directions: 1.) Loss of credit would lead to consumer austerity, plunging retail and travel sectors into a crisis/recession. 2.) The lower and middle class that are juggling credit cards to live their lifestyles would quickly default because they will lose access to credit and they will not be able to obtain new cards with their credit scores. This will lead to a major crisis as defaults hit many people all at once.

Trump is very similar to a leftist at times in that he believes he can put his finger on the scale without creating unintended consequences. Thus, both the left and Trump's greatest shortcoming is their impulsivity because they do not revere the sensitivity of complex systems.

I wonder if the window of opportunity is closing ..or has closed.....

They call him TACO but last time he did not chicken out on Iran so perhaps something happens soon, because it does not seem like the Iranians are being very careful with the protesters to say the least...

Which is why I put the caution on the source. Their international reporting is typically factual, however their animus toward this administration has been clear from the start.

During WWII we and the British occupied large areas of Europe and North Africa at the behest of exiled governments. Morocco and Tunisia are the closest analogy to Greenland. We also were given extensive basing rights in Greenland during the Cold War which was also the case across much of Western Europe. None of that has anything to do with Danish sovereignty anymore than British, German, or French sovereignty.

To occupy Greenland would be an act of war against a fellow NATO member. That action would destroy the alliance. The senate has recently passed into law that any withdrawal from NATO would require 2/3 senate approval. An action that accomplished the same thing or led to a state of war with the alliance would require, at least to my mind, the same Senate approval thus making such an order illegal.

Finally, we still have the same basing rights we have always had in Greenland but have not exercised since the end of the Cold War. We can, in coordination with the Danes, exercise any Alliance related defensive measures the President and the SECDEF deem appropriate.

Finally, Trump can pay each inhabitant of Greenland a mil each. I am sure they would be grateful. Such bribery would in no way affect sovereignty. This whole bit of international theater is unworthy of this country.

I hope Trump is throwing out ridiculous Greenland invasion ideas. Hoping that when he comes to a purchase agreement with the Danish government it seems reasonable by comparison.

His credit card interest rate idea is something an uneducated liberal would come up with. All about feelings without facts.

His DOJ charging Jerome Powell is shaking the market. Powell’s refusal to lower interest rates at the wrong time in 2025 as Trump demanded. Actually saved critical parts of Trump‘s economy against Trumps own Will. He should thank Powell not jail him.

It’s almost as if Trump is single-handedly trying to cause a blue wave this fall. And in 2028. Maybe he’s so petty he does not want another Republican president to possibly outshine him. So he’s purposely tanking the Republicans chances.

Concerning war plans to invade Greenland, I remember a big commotion concerning plans to invade Canada. The Canadian plans were simply developed as an exercise at a US military command and staff college or National Defense University.

Heck, what better way to develop strategic thinking among field or flag grade officers than to assign a project of developing plans to invade and occupy country X, Y, or Z. That stated, why wouldn’t the US Army, Army, Navy, and Air Force have combined plans for each and every country on earth? Even my Marine Corps University would certainly develop such plans.

At @Red Leg , would you be so kind as to enlighten this equipment junkie officer as to training my seniors would have participated in?
