Politics

Only "spending" bills pass our senate on a simple majority. Because of the filibuster, other bills require a supermajority (60 out of 100).

What immigration law hasn't been in front of the supreme court?
The supermajority is required for cloture, that is a vote to bring it to the floor. Once on the floor, all you need is 51. 50 if the VP breaks the tie.

Either way, a supermajority is not at all the same thing as a plurality. And the SC only rules if there is a question, and then only after circuit courts, etc.

Are you familiar with the term "Backseat driver"?
Interesting that the inference of "backseat driver" was thrown out and the irony is not lost on me. This is the "African Hunting Forum." Looking back on all your posts, the majority are all related to Politics (N.B. - none as far as I can see, about the politics that would directly or even remotely affect hunting in the "Dark Continent"), some about cigars (sure...this is of common interest) and "rattlesnakes" (yes...we all love/hate snakes and as hunters, an issue of safety concern). You have never hunted in Africa based on your profile, and have not given meaningful feedback on rifle calibers, reloading or other hunting specific aspects that would otherwise be of interest in this Forum (I'll give you, that you did provide some valuable info about elk hunting a while ago).

I see you are not really tolerant of other viewpoints and quick to dismiss then as liberal, communist, weak/soft or otherwise that suits your needs. Your pro-Hawk, American viewpoint is just that, but nevertheless is of value...no better or worse then many others in this Forum on politically-related matters that is largely view point based. That being said, when are you going to add intrinsic value to the Forum outside of the Politics thread or related to hunting?

Point being, Sir, you are the ultimate "back seat" driver waging your political ideals and not allowing other view points on their own merit without adding insult on a Forum about Hunting...so you trully are a back seat driver about this Forum's mandate. A request for you to leave the back seat and please add value about snakes, cigars, elk hunting and firearms and if you've added value in this regards, judicous and respectful posts elsewhere! Better yet, spend some money and actually go to Africa and hunt and post your experiences as this would be of great value since I believe, you would have good insights.

I bet ICE agents drink water too.... JUST LIKE HITLER AND PUTIN!!!!!!!

Are you seriously going to act like you can't google pictures of literally any police force in the world in tactical gear?

These guys don't even have mags in their rifles.

Gee whiz.....
Entertaining to know that you felt the need to look back thru my posts to come up with a misguided assessment of me, as if I am somehow supposed to care what a complete stranger on social media thinks about what content I have, or haven't, posted here.
You live your life. Don't tell me how to live mine.

Comparing Russian anti riot police to the U.S. ICE agent is quite a stretch and insult.

If you look into the trajectory of Russian military troop training and even their special forces training during the GWOT. They have tried to copy the tactics and equipment of U.S. military units and tier one units.

The quality is glaringly lacking

It’s Harbor Freight compared to Snap On

Recent example.

If Russian Tier One units were sent in to capture Maduro. They most likely wouldn’t even have captured him. and if they did, they would’ve killed anyone within a half mile circle first. civilians included.

“The Unit” did it with zero U.S. casualties or civilians harmed. They are the Best in the world at catch, kill or capture.

Best recent recent example is the opening hours of the Ukrainian invasion. Russia committed its Tier 1 SOF and a brigade of the VDV into Hostomel Airfield on the outskirts of Kyiv in the opening hours of the war to seize or kill the Ukrainian leadership. It devolved into an unmitigated combined arms disaster.

The force was initially attrited by individual Ukrainians using MANPADs shoulder fired air defense systems demonstrating the ineffectiveness of Russian ADA suppression systems and technology. Note these are MI 8/17 troop transports goin down.

Upon seizing the airfield, the VDV put together a column of their light armored infantry fighting vehicles to penetrate to the city center. These vehicles also transported the Tier 1 operators. The intent would seem to have been to replicate a US operation where the Rangers would act as the protection and area denial force while SOF dealt with the target.

The results were a catastrophe, and the unit, roughly battalion strength, not counting SOF, was destroyed long before penetrating to the target area in central Kyiv. There are lots of graphic videos on line for those interested. The remnants of the VDV brigade and surviving SOF elements were gradually surrounded in the Hostomel area where their brutal treatment of civilians in the area would gain international attention when revealed. Follow on Russian conventional forces tried to then incircle Kyiv, but that operation also eventually failed under a hail of anti-tank missiles and the abject failure of Russian logistics that could not effectively fuel, feed, and rearm/replace units only 100 km from their own border. By April, Hostomel and surrounding area were firmly back in Ukrainian hands.

American capabilities in this regard are rather unique.

Russia has stolen the concepts, structure and tactics of U.S. special forces. But lack the quality leadership and attention to detail. They continue to value brute force and quantity over quality.

One thing the KSSO and the U.S. Army “Unit” have in common is they both take the best from every branch and any branch service member can apply for selection to the US Army 1st SFOD. Or Russias KSSO. Which is a huge strength. Unfortunately for Russia that is the only similarity.

The U.S. Marine spec ops guys tend to do better at cross over into the Army 1st SFOD due to imbedded basic infantry skill baseline. The Navy guys don’t normally have the fundamental infantry skills. Just about any rating in the Navy can go to BUDs so a guy with zero infantry skills 1 year later can be a SEAL.

So SEALs normally struggle with the Army selection course for the Unit.

I should add. I’m fortunate to have a very close friend to this day, that was one of the very few being successful in leaving the Navy. Enlisting in the Army helping during the GWOT. Then returned and Retired with the Navy.

Vladimir Solovyov is a leading propagandist for the Kremlin. He is something of a Sean Hannity figure with a weekend news talk show where threatening to blow up London or seize Berlin are regular staples of debate. He also has a daily radio broadcast from which this is yesterday's clip. 2026 really does seem to be starting out badly for him.

The other important quality That Russia lacks is a cultural barrier that is apparently impossible to overcome. US servicemen of all ranks are not merely encouraged, but are expected to use their initiative to help accomplish the mission. Waiting for orders is not considered a positive attribute in the American armed forces. The "why" of that goes deep into a history which was founded on individual achievement and ability.

Russia, on the other hand, has a military constructed around central authority. That too derives from deep cultural roots where for centuries the vast majority of the Russian population lived as serfs who were little more than slaves to the tiny land-owning aristocracy. As evidenced by the tactics currently being employed in Ukraine, neither the Soviet nor Federal Russian experience has done much to alter that military cultural mindset.

I wasn’t thinking of the independent initiative but that is a huge benefit. And has been since the beginning of our country. Battle of Kings Mountain and Saratoga were won primarily by Militia initiative and ingenuity .
