I think that goes without saying, the suspect made a poor decision, welcome to the world of law enforcement! Thousands of people make poor decisions daily when interacting with law enforcement officers but thankfully it rarely ends up in a lethal force situation. Much of the public apparently doesn’t understand that if you have committed a crime an officer may use reasonable amount of force to effect an arrest and as it escalates so does the officers response. Um, let us say I have brought this reality home to many individuals.I wholeheartedly agree this was a tragedy that was avoidable. Different procedures or training may have avoided it as would have different actions by the woman. However, I would counter your last statement with the fact that the woman shouldn’t have been interfering with LE and not obeying officer’s commands to get out of the car. Instead she backed up and then accelerated and turned toward the officer.
It seems that things almost always go south when suspects don’t obey officers. If she just would have stopped her car and gotten out, she would have been arrested and probably out of jail that night, instead she made the choice to flee in the direction of an officer. It cost her her life. She made the wrong choice.
I will say this, had it been a Minneapolis police officer they would already be suspended or terminated and facing criminal charges so the ICE agent is at least shielded from those politics. Oh, back to the officer placing himself at the front of the vehicle and I have done exactly the same btw, that was poor tactics, the drivers criminal stupidity doesn’t change that. I don’t really care about the female driver but by choosing poor tactics the ICE officer exposed himself to even more danger and significant injury or worse. I want them to end their shift without injury and go home to their families.
