Canada, USA,Austria,Turkey,Tschech Rep.,Poland,Hungary,Serbia,Denmark,Khomas HL and Omaheke/Namibia and England(England is wonderful) Romania,Luangwa/Zambia-,Gwayi/Zimbabwe/- + Save/Zimbabwe/- River. Horseback-tours in South Africa and Botswana.
Just arrived from Botswana/Tuli block and had a breahtaking time in the wilderness .
We had to cross the border at Pont Drift.
Before we had to ride in the Waterberg region in South Africa, staying in a tentcamp.
The owner decides then, so we can go further to Botswana or not.
The rides in SA was quick and hard, but in Botswana, we had to be in the saddle as a Pony Express rider and I'm happy , that we arrived home savely.

our guide always carried his Marlin lever action in 45-70 and a bull whip.
The sound of the whip is like a shot and when we rode through thick cover, or dry river beds,he used the whip and was hoping that lions and elephants turned away.

Tuli Block is a 100.000 ha conservancy area without fences, exeptional to South Africa.
And the animals especially the elephants can roam where ever they want.Zimbabwe or the rest of Botswana.
Its elephant country and I never saw so many plains game like there.
The area its a mixture between Kenia Highlands and Serengeti.
Our tent camp was in middle the game area.
Interesting was ,that there was no straw fence, like in the hunting camps I know, before darkness came ,every 30 m, we was surrounded by petroleum lamps ,this is the fence there and it works -exeptional the elephant visits us the nights. It was not normal that they came into at night, but they was hungry. Its total dry ,so dry, that buffalos cant live there.

Sometimes we made a game drive by car and get in touch with DG.
But by horse you can't go nearer as 100 m to a normal elephant ,200 m to breedings herds .
At lions 200 m maximum .
When a elphant is charging you, you make a full speed canter from 100m and all is good, when we met lions, back, back in a walk, never a canter.

black maned lion.
the speed on horseback is extraordinary and next time I take a few jumping lessons at home and I would feel more safe.
Generally I feel more safe with my feet on the ground and a big gun in my hand.
Big game (elephants ,lions and leopards) was over all.

Here a picture form a game drive in SA-
Entabene Game Conservancy.
A wonderful camp ,one half for visitors ,one half for the hunters and the lodges are great.
When I would decide to stay for hunting in SA ,this where one of the places I want to be.
You must google, so you want further informations.

I was dissapointed a little ,when I came to the famous Limpopo River.
It was dry.....

50 years not one official shot was falling at Tuli Block.
That's the reason, that you can go near to a leopard (female here) by car, not by horse.

Thank you sir! I very much enjoyed the photos and your report.

So run from the Lions and walk from the charging elephants. Got it. :A Outta:

I think I just saved your life lol

@Foxi what a great way to experience the wilderness. Thanks for sharing. It brought back memories of being on horse back outside of Yellowstone and seeing a grizzly bear at 400 yards. Plenty close enough for me.

Nice pics. Thanks for taking us on a ride through some of wild Africa. Glad you shared with us. Bruce

Quite an adventure. With my superior abilities at falling off a fast moving horse, I would be lion dinner or an elephant soccer ball for sure!

Thanks for sharing. Looks fantastic but I would hate for my life to depend on my horsemanship!

Wow, thank you for sharing! This is exactly what I have always wanted to do with my wife and daughter

Thanks for your report and great pictures

Some great elephant and lion pics!
