I concur, you are quite correct, no need to behave yourself like a punching bag, not everyone is a boxer as pointed out if someone really wants to shoot a heavy caliber he can take the route I suggested ....

I'm sure you're all right about shooting style, but I'm too old to change the way I shoot a rifle with almost have a century hunting and shooting time in. As long as I can keep three shots into a 3" circle at 100 yards shooting offhand I'm not going to change lol. And you're right after quite a few left hooks and straight rights to the head, the punishment is minimal for me

You can not teach an old dog new tricks....advice on shooting a heavy caliber rifle is only applicable on new comers to the hunting environment/first time shooters ( lab rats) where a heavy caliber rifle is given to an unsuspected novice to entertain other bystanders... I am currently getting a lot of practice to shoot pigs off hand( too many free range domestic pigs on the farm) using a .22 open sight rifle at close quarters, it really is a lot of fun . I am learning a lot about quick target acquisition, shot placement and to identify the specific pig when it is keeping in the bunch...maybe a simple exercise, still it is teaching an old dog new tricks about fast shooting at close quarters and not wounding other pigs not suitable for table fair .

That is awesome. My favorite way to hunt elk has always been to "jump shoot" them in the black timber with my 270 shoting 150g Partitions.. Still hunting quietly in the heavy timber when you "scare one up" and have to judge (see if they're legal and worth shooting) and shoot them on the run in a matter of seconds in the heavy timber is thrilling. I now hunt the elk the same way with my 500 Jeffery. It's a blast and great practice for when I eventually get to Africa.

As a range safety officer and a shooter ....I trust the lady had a lot of experience shooting .....though the OP suggests it's her first time ......on my watch would have bounced your assess off the range ....

Really this is publicity for your ammo ....

If that lady had not shot before as the OP suggests then just lost a customer for life

They are always important. The trick is if you're already a decent rifle shot to not let the rifle tame you, but to tame it.

One does not tame a rifle. Not possible. You adapt to IT, not vice versa.

She sure didn’t look like she’d been properly coached on how to shoot that rifle. Looked like she was leaning away from it, bladed. Pretty much opposite of ideal. Credit to her for hanging onto it, and shame on the person who gave it to her without proper instruction.

The more I see these rifles being shot in videos, the fewer people I see that can handle them. It becomes less of a shooting experience than a dancing backwards experience. She's probably quite an excellent dancer.

i cant wear ear muffs when shooting my Gibbs with heavy loads (they will come off). Norma doesnt load their 500 Jeffery ammunition overly stout either so im sure that made it a little easier.

I have the same problem when shooting my 500 Jeffery from the bench. The ear muffs come off every shot lol

When you step into the 500Jeff/505Gibbs/577NE and bigger rifles recoil range the proper fit of the rifle is Key! The lady did well considering that no one took the time to properly coach her on good shooting mechanics.

Every time I have taken one of my bigger rifle to the public range most folks just look at the case and walk away shaking their head. I won't let anyone shoot them that doesnt have some big bore experience as one the the things that piss me off greatly is when people five a ill fitting hard kicker to children and women and just laugh when they get clobbered by the recoil. It is a great way to turn a new shoot off and make them never want to come back.

Maybe it was prudent just to assist her with the correct body posture, leaning into the rifle , supporting with your back leg/foot would have given her a much lesser recoil ....I am not thinking it is fair to give somebody a heavy caliber to shoot and not coaching her the correct stance...

I agree. Even a 375 can put a first timer off.

Not sure why some have their knickers in a twist over her firing a 500 ...I am pretty sure she was given instruction before hand , and not just handed it ...it also says she fired more than one shot and her accuracy was better than other visitors.... ..as I have mentioned somewhere else on here and quite a while ago , that on a hunt in the luangwa there was a girl visiting the camp. She was probably bit over 5 foot and not much of her , but she asked about the rifles and she had a go with one of the smaller calibres. Then I asked if she wanted a go with my lott which only weighs 9lbs as she had shot well...she said yes...so explained it was going to boot her a lot more than the one she had fired....she took her shot and didn't drop it..fall over or anything else...in fact she looked round and said that was OK can I have another go....we looked at her in sort of amazement and said go ahead....contrary to what has been said about big people absorbing the recoil so can handle it better, to me it seemed as she was small and offered less resistance she rolled with it, and didn't seem to be as affected as someone bigger who is not moving as much and so taking more punishment....but
