NF CPS on buff 9.3x62

Not a good choice. The Bullet will likely exit. Rather use a soft, Swift A frame would be my choice, TSX may also overpenetrate. 9,3 x 62 has plenty of penetration. I would also add that a 9,3 is not legal in zimbabwe with any current factory ammo. Energy does not make the minimum requirements. You would need some pretty hot handloads to make it legal.

It is capable of buffalo, no question but not strictly legal.

In my experience with the 9.3 x 62 and sorts it doesn’t actually penetrate that well. Could have been the softs (woodleigh) are too soft. But also had some TSX and didn’t over penetrate either in zebra…

I think I depends on your bullet weight.
A 320 gn Woodleigh should penetrate extremely well. With a high school and moderate velocity it should be the cats pyjamas.

My first choice for your requirements would be a swift Aframe as the soft followed by the CPS.

second choice would be the Northfork 286gr soft and CPS.

Third choice the Barnes TSX and CPS.

good luck finding any Swift bullets, have not seen any in more than a year or two and Bill keeps saying he is going to make some but does not seem to happen

I've shot only one CPS at a cape buffalo, a follow up shot at about 90 M with my .450-400 double. Hit the buff in the butt as it twirled to run away after the first good hit with a soft. Bullet penetrated the ham, guts, rumen, diaphragm, one lung and lodged against the ribs in the front of the chest. Expansion was wide and flat, not quite 2x diameter. I feel quite confident the 286 gr. CPS would be a good choice for buff in the 9.3x62 if the long copper bullet can be loaded to high enough velocity. I don't know if limited case capacity is a challenge or not in that cartridge.

You are never under gunned on buff with the 9.3x62…if anyone tells you that they do not know what they are talking about. The 286 grain Barnes TSX is more than enough medicine for buff

Yeah the SD would be hire than the same bullet in 375

Case capacity is an issue, it’s not a very fat case so each mm lost to seating a bullet deeper takes a bigger percentage of overall powder capacity.

But the overall penetration improvement should make up for the slower velocity?

The velocity Longwalker´s 450/400 was, more than probably, a couple of hundred f/s less than the 286 grs in a 9,3x62. And the buffalo, also more than probably, would be shot at relatively short distance. And the pure cooper CPS bullet is designed to open at low velocity and not to much.
I would not be too worry about the issue...

You will then have to prove that your load makes the threshold. 9,3 x74 R has no hope. Do people do it- Yes. But why risk a brush with the police. Practically, even if your rifle is legal, you will probably just give up your rifle, pay a fine and head back home because proving you are right will cost more than it is worth.

I have hunted in Zim seven times with 9.3 x 74 R ele , buffalo inclusive several times and I never had problem neither with different scout nor with different ph .No limit of energy and diameter out of gvt hunting land has been taken by **NOT**PERMITTED** magazine, the leader of dark continent as well as Boddington.So...nobody of gvt 's staff will bring ever a cronograph to the campsite!
If u want be happy and sure u can reload your 9.3 with 250 grs (solid and soft)at 2600 fps or a little bit over and u will get your minimum wished energy.(nosler reloading manual)Ganyana was the first to propose about 9.3(×62 /74 R) as minimum legal caliber in Zim for buff and ele changing later the old law were the minimum was 375 !

By Nosler reloading manual u can check alone ...9.3x74 R 250 grs at 2653 fps muzzle energy 540 kgm.In hot climate of Zim and barnes bullet and others monometal will get maybe over those data.One of my friend with his 9.3x74 R did reload 285 grs barnes monometal which showed on his cronograph 2400 fps ,100 fps over the other traditional soft and solid too!
