New Rifle arrived

I received a package from Mark Bansner today. This is a LH M70 Classic that I had rebarrelled with a Brux CM in 308 Norma Magnum. It is now nestled in a Bansner carbon fiber stock and is fitted with a Timney trigger.

Before now all my rifles and shotguns have been cold rust blued steel in fine walnut. I took a flier on this rifle and i am glad I did - excellent workmanship right down to the indexed screws on the inletted swivel pads. It is Ceracoated in dark gray... sorry, no camo paint or suppressors.

I'll take a couple photos tomorrow and shoot it on Monday.

It is Ceracoated in dark gray... sorry, no camo paint or suppressors.

Thankfully, no camo or a suppressor, a hunting rifle.

Any issues with feeding with new barrel?

No problems with barrel or operation of the rifle. I had John McLaughlin of Helena MT contour, fit and chamber the barrel prior to sending the rifle to Mark Bansner so function was assured. Mark did a very nice job on the stock and bedding.

By doing the barrel work first I was able to develop head spacing and lead data to begin load development while Mark was working on the LH CF stock. I ordered the stock in January and received it mid-June. Pretty good turn around for a sorta “custom” rifle. I am a bit surprised at the quality of the Ceracoat finish, which included the extractor and Talley QD rings.

Waiting until Monday to take it down the hill to my little range to start dailing in the rifle and loads.

I agree! I am more of a wood and blued hunter myself, and would love to know what the rifle is on the left!
That being said, I also built up a rainy weather rifle (stainless action with a carbon barrel and a composite stock) and I have to say that it is nice to not worry about the rifle if you are out in really inclement weather. So everyone should have one.

That's a beautiful rifle in a classic cartridge from the 1960's. Looks like a perfect choice for elk and stone sheep. Enjoy in good health.

I've know Mark for several years, going back to Legendary Arms Works and the LAW704 action. I believe it was at the GAOS in Harrisburg, PA in 2016 or 2017 when I met him. Had a little reunion with him in 2023 at SCI. Just a great guy.

The rifle on the left is a GM Mauser 98 by Reto Buehler. Caliber is 404 Jeffery.

I really don't know. I also ordered the stock sans cheek piece... don't know if that is 'non standard' also.

Very cool! It just so happens I have been obsessing over a m70 build, though I was leaning toward a mcwoody / mcwallnut stock. Can’t seem to decide exactly which chamber direction I want to go myself, I appreciate the practically modern blended with classic.
