i have a ss left hand browning a-bolt in .280 that shoots pretty good, that was loud and i called browning and they sent be a non ported replacement for free. i am temped to cut the boss off and recrown the barrel.

Was the replacement blued or stainless? I could only find stainless non-ported aftermarket BOSS.

I've owned several rifles with the BOSS and was able to tune them for decent accuracy, but nothing outstanding. Groups would go from 1.5 or 1.25 moa to .75 moa at best. Not bad for hunting rifles. Ended up swapping for a Sako and a Tikka that I liked better.

Yes, the muzzle brake was obnoxious, but they all are on hunting rifles. The non-vented BOSS is probably your best bet unless you want to spend more money to remove it, and at the same time possibly lower the value of the rifle
