I have a strange question. I inherited a bunch of older shotguns and some 22 rifles. I have no real use for these. There is a million ways I could spend the money from them, bills I could pay exc. but I don’t want to do that. I would like to trade them for something that when I use it can remember where it came from. I really can’t say that I “need” anything.

So the question is if you were in this position what would you get? Looking for some idea that I may say “that’s it”.

I'd get a good safe to store them in until you can find a good trade for them.

You can look at Gunbroker to see a inflated price for them or list them here and see what other members think.

List them on AH classifieds

There are a couple I will probably list when I am sure of what I want to keep. However most of them are Stevens single shot shotguns and 22s so individually they a hardly worth the shipping. I just have a bunch of them. So thought I could trade 3 or four at a time towards 1 at a local shop.

Not knowing what your interests are, or your relationship to the person that you inherited the guns from, or a guestimate of how much you might realize from a sale/trade of the guns, it would be impossible to speculate what would say "that's it" to you. Post some more information and maybe that could narrow the possibilities from virtually anything anyone could think of, to something that you might possibly connect with.

Best regards,

@Jamie D Van Roekel I think the first step is to find out what you truly have. Then it is planning how to maximize your return selling them based upon what they are. Then its about gathering your requirements and interests to identify "what are you going to buy with the money"?

If you send me a PM, I can take a rough shot at estimating what you have although posting here is even better because there are so many specialist experts that could get very nuanced with each gun in question.

As to what you want to buy next, we have a post in the classifieds called "Good Gun Deals This Week" where we kick the tires and discuss what has come to market that looks like a good value. It's a great place to post links to guns you like and get the forum members to render opinions on them before you imperil your capital.

Guys thanks for your thoughtful replies. I’m sitting here while my wife is in knee surgery and trying to entertain my mind. I was basically just looking for what you guys have for a wish list if you had a little money to throw at something in a Scheels “Gander Mountain” not custom. Not looking for deep philosophical thought. It is kind of you to be so supportive to what I’m up to. Just trying to turn 25-30 low cost guns into something fun/useful.

Point of order @Jamie D Van Roekel . How do you know 25-30 low-cost guns are what you have? In a pile of "low-cost guns" their average values usually range from $35-$125 but there is usually one or two that may have been low cost originally, but could be worth hundreds or thousands today. If you're sure, then discount that advice.

Regarding "Good Gun Deals This Week" go to the classifieds section and it is a sticky post at the top. There have been many great deals that have come through the members on this forum pointing out what is on the market at a given time.

All Stevens or any Win 26" bbl single shot rifles w/ peep sights? Sold one years ago and that was a mistake (it was so accurate. perfect pest gun for around the yard.) Pre-WWII era.

If I was going to buy a gun that I don’t need for the fun of it, right now that would probably be a Ruger .44 Mag carbine. I believe they are a Deerfield model and I believe there were two different production runs; one run varies somewhat from the other.

This carbine is very similar to the Ruger 10/22 (which I have 3 of them) and I think it would be fantastic in the woods of WIsconsin.
John.

I shot my first deer with a Ruger 44 Mag carbine. I've been looking for one, but the prices are a bit too high. Good luck on that search.

That actually sounds like a good idea. I’ll put that one in the potential list. Thanks

You are right there are a few that are worth more but I haven’t put any of them on the block yet. You boys will be the first to know. Thanks
