Nepal - Blue Sheep Hunt - Fall 2026

Very Jealous. I have quite a few friends and family that ran around Nepal in the 90's. A summation of their experiences would be "The natural splendor, and quality of the local weed was equally life changing"

The continual training and preparation advances…hiking both distance and hills, shooting at various distances, reviewing gear lists, light weight workouts, and watching videos of previous hunts and hunters in Nepal.

I feel stronger and in much better shape in late summer versus immediately after February and the long winter. The heat, humidity, and constant sweating during outdoor activities is not fun but worth the time and effort in losing a few pounds.

A special thanks to the many forum members who previously hunted in the Himalayan mountains for sharing their experiences and recommendations.

Update: Wheels up in 33 days, 5 hours, and 26 minutes for the blue sheep hunt in the Himilayan mountains of Nepal. Three years of planning and training. Hunting between 11,000 and 17,000 feet altitude from what I hear. Starting to lighten training soon as I do not want to get hurt beforehand.

Almost go time! Multiple flights…Indy to Dallas to Doha, Qatar to Kathmandu, Nepal. Very blessed, thankful and grateful for the opportunity to hunt on the Asian continent.

Awesome. As referenced earlier, I would likely feel like crud stationary at those elevations. I come from a long lineage of flat-landers. . Make sure you are hydrated before you get on the plane, while on the flight, and over the entire trip. Good luck on all aspects of the hunt.

Any idea how long it’ll take to ascend to those heights? Will you have some rest days to get acclimated? Curious how they combat that.
I ask because I have a buddy who was just in Nepal summiting a couple of the 8’s as he trains to summit Everest and he got HAPE on either his first or second summit. He still finished with the use O2 (against medical advice)

Update: Three more weekends to train and prepare before wheels up on 10/13. Can’t get hurt now - almost Go Time.

Can't wait for the trip report. I leave for Nepal 9/29 to just do some treking. Will be going up to 18500 if everything goes good. I have really stepped up my training for this trip compared to any other hiking or hunting trips.

Wait till you see the local planes leaking oil on the tarmac in Kathmandu and on start up blow a huge plume of smoke. I think maintenance means adding oil at every stop.

Flying into Lukla and then treking to EBC and Kala Pathar. I have watched some videos of that Lukla airport and it looks pretty sketchy.

@TheGrayRider are you using diamox in this trip? I got my Blue sheep in Pakistan and i Hunted some more Blue sheep there with clients. And good shape is important but to avoid or reduce the altitud sickness is more important the acclimatization ,for which hunting organizers often build in extra days, you have to walk very slow first days even if you feel that you can more—it is crucial to stay very well hydrated; force yourself to drink plenty of fluids, even if you aren't thirsty and usually the DIAMOX is useful for many hunters.

I purchased a prescription of Diamox here in the States for the upcoming Nepal hunting trip per the outfitter's earlier recommendation.
